Magellan Community Foundation kicked off its “Casinhas” campaign at the Portuguese Consulate in Toronto on Wednesday night. The Casinhas campaign is looking to engage the community in its mission to build long-term care homes and affordable housing in the Lansdowne and Bloor neighborhood. The campaign will distribute 500 miniature Magellan Centre "piggy banks” to businesses serving the Portuguese-speaking community. Look out for these “Casinhas” at your favourite establishments! Magellan Community Foundation is thrilled to announce $325,000 in new donations from prominent local organizations in our community. Manuel DaCosta, Board Chair of Magellan Community Charities, expressed his gratitude, saying "The incredible generosity of these partners will have a profound impact on the Foundation's goal to bring a much-needed long-term care home to our Portuguese-Canadian seniors.” We want to offer a heartfelt thank you to the following organizations:

Toronto, Ontario – September 15, 2023 – Today, Magellan Community Charities is thrilled to announce the groundbreaking ceremony of the highly anticipated Magellan Centre. This momentous event signifies the start of an exciting new chapter, and we cordially invite the community to join us in celebrating this significant milestone.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 16th, 2023, at 12:00 pm, the groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 640 Lansdowne Avenue in Toronto.

The Magellan Centre's vision and mission is to ensure that our senior citizens live in a comfortable and pleasant home that delivers services in both English and Portuguese while offering an environment that is culturally and gastronomically attuned to their roots. In the true spirit of our culture, it will also be an inclusive home, welcoming all seniors regardless of ethnicity.

On Friday, September 8th, 2023 at 10:00am a press conference was held at the future site of The Magellan Centre. Under the guidance of our Board Chair, Manuel DaCosta, introductions were made to Magellan Community Charities' Board Members as well as sharing insights about the project and details for the upcoming groundbreaking ceremony. Yesterday's press conference was followed by a Q&A session.

Last Sunday we were at Portugal The Festa to celebrate our culture. Thank you to everyone that paid us a visit, it was a pleasure to be with all of you!

And a huge thank you to that organized several events in favor of our organization. .

No passado domingo estivemos em Portugal The Festa para celebrar a nossa cultura. Obrigado a todos os que nos visitaram, foi um prazer estar convosco!
