Storm recovery funding announced for June 2025 damages.

The Province of Ontario, through the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, announced today that the Township of Bonfield will receive $380,000 in support for the recovery work completed from the extreme rain and downburst last spring.

Mayor Paquette thanked MPP Fedeli and the province for the support and for offering the Municipal Disaster Recovery Assistance program. The funding will be used to offset the costs for repairing the critical infrastructure due to the extraordinary weather event.

We all thank the Public Works Crew for their hard work and dedication to the community, every day. The Team worked many hours, and at all hours of the day, during the emergency to repair the roads.

Public Notice: Church Street and Yonge Intersection will be closed starting at 10 am this morning, Friday, May 29th, 2026.

Public Works will finish tearing up the pavement for the final preparation work required for Gagnon Street. This will only take a few hours and will be reopened early afternoon. Please see the detour route below.

Next week, preparation work will begin on Trunk Road for the hill rehabilitation. This will impact Yonge Street down to Railway and a small section above Yonge Street. Please watch for more details and detour routes.

Paving is being scheduled with the contractor for the first week of August, at this point in time, for both sections of road. We cannot put calcium down on these sections, as it will negatively affect the binding of the pavement. The Public Works crew will do their best to control the dust with water. It is appreciated that this is an inconvenience, and we thank you for your patience while we continue our infrastructure renewal on these roadways.
