Today, we recognize International Overdose Awareness Day. 💜

Overdose deaths have increased significantly over the past 20 years around the world. Every overdose is preventable. We remember those lost to overdose and recognize the individuals, families, and communities impacted by substance use and addiction.

At CSPS, we are committed to working alongside our community and our partners to raise awareness, reduce stigma, prevent overdose deaths, and connect people with the support and resources they need.

Today, and every day, we continue working toward a safer, healthier community.

Our members have been out conducting speed enforcement recently on Stellys Cross Rd between Wallace Drive and East Saanich Road. Many drivers have been stopped travelling 25 km/h or more over the posted 40 km/h limit. Officers took the opportunity to provide warnings and educate drivers about the new 40 km/h speed limit in the area.

Speed limits are put in place to help keep everyone safe — drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and our neighbours. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the new limits and adjust your speed accordingly.

CSPS was happy to be part of the four-day Junior Police Camp held last week!

Our members had a great time connecting with, mentoring, and spending time with some amazing young people in our community. It was a great opportunity to give back, share some experiences, and hopefully inspire the next generation.

Thank you to the Greater Victoria Police Foundation and to everyone who helped make the camp such a great success!

What a week! GVPF’s Junior Police Camp is almost over, and these youth have had an unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to celebrate their graduation tomorrow and thank the incredible police volunteers and donors who made it all possible. A special thank you to St. Margaret's School for hosting us! 💙👮‍♀️👮‍♂️

A wonderful day celebrating community and a truly Canadian tradition!

Thank you to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for bringing the Musical Ride to the Saanich Fairgrounds yesterday afternoon. Chief Lawson was honoured to serve as the event’s Guest of Honour and join community members and fellow attendees for this special occasion.

It was a great opportunity to come together, enjoy the incredible horsemanship and pageantry of the Musical Ride, and celebrate the traditions that bring our communities together.

Central Saanich Police and other police agencies in the area have received reports that an individual may be attempting to lure people closer to his vehicle by asking for directions or offering a ride.

Members of the public are advised not to approach the vehicle or get close to the driver. If approached, maintain a safe distance, decline any offer, move to a populated area if necessary, and contact police as soon as it is safe to do so.

While no connection has been confirmed, Central Saanich Police are investigating and sharing this information so residents can take appropriate precautions and report any suspicious activity. (File #26-2540)

If you observe a white older-model two-door vehicle with a roof rack, driven by a South Asian male or have information that may assist police, please contact CSPS at 250-652-4441. In an emergency, call 911.

Indecent Exposures

Police are asking the public to remain vigilant following two incidents in the Garnet Road and Shelbourne Street area involving an indecent act.

Both women were approached by a man in a vehicle who asked for directions. When they moved closer to assist, they discovered the man was exposing himself inside his car.

The suspect is described as:
• South Asian male
• Approximately 30 years old
• Lighter tanned skin with short black hair
• Driving a white, older-model two-door vehicle
• Vehicle has a roof rack and the car is lowered

Both offences took place at around midday on a weekday.

Anyone who may have information about this incident is encouraged to contact Saanich police or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.

If you have experienced, or do experience, anything similar to this, please contact your local police department. Behaviour such as this can often escalate if left unpunished.

🚧 Important Traffic & Parking Information for Central Saanich’s 75th Anniversary Celebration 🚧

As we gear up for the festivities on July 25 at Centennial Park, please be aware of the following traffic updates:

• Road Closures: Hovey Road between East Saanich Rd and Centennial Park will be closed to ensure safety during the event. Please plan your route accordingly.
• Traffic Control: Follow the directions of flaggers and traffic control personnel.
• Parking Restrictions: There will be limited public event parking along Wallace Drive and one large parking lot at the site. Drivers are reminded they are prohibited from parking in bike lanes and to leave clearance near driveways, intersections and other areas that could impede public safety.
• Complimentary Shuttle Service: A free shuttle service will be running every 30 minutes from key locations, including overflow parking at Stelly’s Secondary, the library in Brentwood Bay, and the bus exchange in Saanichton Village. The shuttle will start at 11:30 a.m. and run until 8:15 p.m.
• Bike Valet: A free, secure Capital Bike valet service from 11:45 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the basketball court.

The Central Saanich Police Service is proud to continue our partnership with Transport Canada, BC Parks, and the RCMP WestCoast Marine Unit to help keep our beautiful waterways safe.

Together, our teams patrol Brentwood Bay and promote safe boating practices. This ongoing collaboration helps ensure residents and visitors can safely enjoy everything our marine environment has to offer.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our waters safe. If you see suspicious activity on the water, report it to police.

🎉 Join us on July 25 noon-8pm at Centennial Park as we celebrate Central Saanich’s 75th Anniversary! 🎉

Be sure to stop by the Central Saanich Police Service booth at the corner of Hovey Road and Wallace Drive, where our dedicated volunteers will be sharing information about our community initiatives. You'll also see our officers walking the grounds throughout the day, so don't hesitate to stop and say hello.

Public Notice: We will also be launching our police drone for a short period during the event to capture aerial photographs of this historic celebration. The flight will be conducted by trained operators in accordance with applicable regulations and departmental policies. The drone is being used for event photography only, and CSPS is committed to protecting the privacy of attendees.

We are thrilled to announce that the Central Saanich Police Service has officially partnered with Wounded Warriors Canada, a dedicated national mental health service provider. This partnership aims to support officers and their families who have been trauma-exposed, ensuring they receive the care and resources they need.

Last week, we had the honor of welcoming Dr. Tim Black, National Clinical Director of Wounded Warriors, who introduced the program to our Service. We were also joined by Police Board Chair Blair Fisher, who has a deep understanding of the invaluable work Wounded Warriors does, and Cpl Pat Bryant, who recently ran the length of Vancouver Island during the Wounded Warrior Run BC.

Together, we are committed to fostering a culture of mental wellness and resilience within our police service. This initiative is a significant step towards ensuring that our officers can serve our community effectively while prioritizing their mental health.
