⛏️ The Payne Mine — 1898

On October 1, 1898, The Mining Review reported that the Payne Mine, high above Sandon, employed an impressive 125 men and was shipping 60 tons of ore every single day.

Its famous gravity tramway stretched 6,000 feet, dropped 2,500 vertical feet, and could bring a five-ton load down the mountain in just eight minutes.

And the ore? Averaging an incredible 105 ounces of silver per ton and 55% lead.

Just another working day in the Slocan in 1898. ⛏️🏔️
