Thank you to every single person that is supported this project to get to this point. Council voted 7–2 to overrule strong mayor powers and we’ll be pushing for construction to begin in 2026.

SAY NO TO STRONG MAYOR POWERS and
Show Your Support for the Bright’s Grove Library Project
-----------------------------------------------------------------
YOUR LETTERS TO COUNCILLORS ARE WORKING!
BUT WE STILL NEED YOU to email or call City Council Members by Tuesday, Nov. 25th and come to the budget meeting (wearing blue) on Nov. 25th at 9:00 if you can.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Bright’s Grove Library and Community Room expansion is under threat right now because Mayor Mike Bradley has invoked Strong Mayor Powers and withdrawn all planned 2026 funding for the project. Furthermore, he has moved it to the unfunded capital list with no future funding.
Most councillors are very now dedicated to seeing this built but we need to keep our foot to the pedal at this crucial time.
There is currently 4 million in reserves set aside for this project and the $2 million is the final amount that had been allocated for this vital community project to go ahead. It may not even be needed, or not all of it, but it has to be in the budget for this to go to tender and be built. City council members have supported this project at every stage including in the 2025 budget deliberations where the vote was unanimous. Hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless staff and volunteer hours have been invested and the design is complete and ready to tender. We have over half of a $1 milion Capital Campaign already pledged (and we haven't started) but some of them still doubt that we have enough support!
The Mayor wants to stop it at the finish line. We have to stop him!
Accessibility Matters, Libraries Matter, Community Rooms Matter, Brights Grove Matters.

SHOW AND SHARE YOUR SUPPORT OF THIS PROJECT!
PLEASE HELP! WE NEED YOU to email or call City Council members by Monday, Nov. 25th

Show up to City Council Chambers on Monday, Nov. 25th at 9:00 Wearing Blue (any shade will do).

We Are On the Doorstep of History!
You can make the Brights Grove Library a reality right now!

If you support the Brights Grove Library and might be planning to make a donation once construction begins, it would make all the difference if you could 'speak up now' by sending us a Letter of Intent that we'll bring to Sarnia City Council. You don't need to state a dollar amount if you don't want and it is non-binding - you can change your decision at any time.

Budget day is on November 25th and we need to prove to councillors that the community wants to support it... despite the fact that we have over $500,000 pledged already.

Your confidential pledge now in a Letter of Intent (which we can email to you with more information) might be what saves this project from Strong Mayor Powers and ensures that construction begins in 2026.

Both Kirsten Kilner-Holmes and myself, as co-chairs, have made pledges and we ask that you contact one of us for more information by November 24th.

Your support this past week has made it much more likely that we will be successful, but we don't want to leave anything to chance. We are truly on the doorstep of history!

Please continue writing to your councillors, and come to the council budget deliberations at City Hall on November 25th (wearing Lake Huron Blue). The budget begins at 9 AM. And please spread the word!

Thank you so much!

Fact Checking the mayors facts at council meeting today. Way to go Mark. Thanks to everyone who showed up and have written emails in support. Your emails and phone calls still matter. This decision still has to go through hoops to get approved. Stay Tuned.

The one thing I forgot to do today in our presentation to city Council was to thank the many people, the sea of blue, that showed up in support of the Brights Grove Library project. Maggie, my wife, was telling me about a whole pile of people that were there that I didn’t even see… I was just so focussed on the job at hand.
Thank you all so much for your support. We made a great case today and I do believe we will have the support of six councillors to overturn the mayor’s decision.

Thank you so much,
Mark Moran

The Brights Grove Library Project will ask councillors at the 1:00 meeting this afternoon to prevent Mayor Bradley from killing what has taken years to accomplish and is at the finish line, by using strong mayor powers to remove the final funding from the 2026 budget. Supporters will be at that meeting wearing any shade of blue and you are welcome to attend. Many personal letters have been sent to councillors but more are needed. All of their email addresses are on another post pinned to the top of our page. Thank you so much!
