I am honoured to be up North in Île-à-la-Crosse as we all celebrate together! For 250 years, Île-à-la-Crosse has been a place of story, strength, culture, language, family, and resilience. It is a privilege to gather with Elders, leaders, citizens, families, and community members to honour the past, celebrate the present, and look ahead together.

Congratulations to Île-à-la-Crosse on this historic milestone. Maarsii for welcoming us. What an amazing time.

Each year on June 6, Canada recognizes Blue Jean Jacket Day to honour and remember Missing, Murdered, and Exploited Indigenous Men and Boys.

Wearing a blue jean jacket is a meaningful way to show support, raise awareness, and remember those who are loved and missed.

This is an important step in making sure survivors and families have kind, clear, one-on-one support as they move through the claims process.

MN–S will have dedicated coordinators in NR2 and NR3, with support also travelling to surrounding communities to help reduce barriers and walk alongside applicants every step of the way.

In a meeting today, the Provincial Métis Council (PMC) passed a resolution to strengthen support for Île-à-la-Crosse Residential School survivors. This recognizes the complexity of the claims process and the lasting impacts experienced by those affected by residential schools. MN–S is dedicating staff and resources to provide one-on-one support through four coordinators, with two based in the NR2 Regional Office and two in the NR3 Regional Office, along with travel to surrounding communities to guide applicants through the claims process. This approach is focused on reducing barriers and ensuring survivors have clear, compassionate support every step of the way.
