Time is ticking!
A quick reminder to our local non-profits and community groups that the deadline for the fall intake of the Town’s Grants to Organizations program is coming up!

Supporting our non-profits and community groups is an important part of Council’s 2026–29 Strategic Plan, and for good reason. These organizations and the volunteers behind them do so much to keep Sexsmith vibrant, connected and a great place to call home. ā¤ļø

If you haven’t stopped by the Sexsmith & District Museum lately, you might be surprised by how much there is to see!

I’ve had the chance to spend some time getting to know this incredible little piece of our community, and recently brought my mother and father in law through for a visit.
They were especially impressed with the new World War I exhibit in the old firehall, now named the Dr. David Leonard Memorial Hall.

What I love about the museum is that you can wander through at your own pace and really take your time. The buildings are wonderfully staged, with so many walk-through scenes that have been carefully curated to give you a glimpse into what life in Sexsmith and the surrounding area looked like in years gone by.

There’s the blacksmith shop, the Pazkowski House (my personal favourite!), two churches, the antique tool shed and Anderson Hall, which is packed with local history. From clothing and garb of the past to the telephone booth that sat on our street corner only a few short years ago, there are so many little pieces of history to discover.

If it’s been a while since your last visit, there are likely plenty of new things to look at!
Tours are self-directed and at your own pace, and you can even download a self-guided walking tour if you’d like to learn more as you go. (See Sexsmithmuseum.com/walking-tour)

The last day to take it all in for the season is August 31! The museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the best part? Everything is free of charge.
Of course, keeping all of this history preserved, maintained and growing doesn’t happen by accident. Fundraising, grants and donations are what help make it all possible.

And speaking of fundraising… mark your calendars for the Museum Fall Supper on October 24, 2026. This is the museum’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and tickets are only $65 per person for a great evening supporting a truly wonderful organization. There will also be silent, live and pie auctions!
I’ll be contributing a banana cream pie… which my father-in-law will happily attest is worth at least $1,000. šŸ˜‰

Tickets can be secured in person at the museum from ā€œcontact usā€ on the website or from me. I hope to see lots of you there!

If you haven’t visited lately, take an afternoon before August 31 to wander through, poke around and enjoy a little piece of Sexsmith and area history.

I think you’ll be surprised by just how much is there.

Big machines are moving earth at the top of the hill! 🚜

Work is underway in the Painted Sky subdivision, and I’m excited to see development moving forward in our community.

Intentional Residential Growth and Development is an important part of Council’s current Strategic Plan. Growth for the sake of growth isn’t the goal. Thoughtful, planned development that supports our long-term future while maintaining the small-town feel of our community is.

Tucked away at the top of the hill, Painted Sky may not be something everyone sees taking shape just yet, but it’s exciting to see the dirt moving and another piece of Sexsmith’s future starting to come to life.

I’m looking forward to watching this neighbourhood grow and, in time, welcoming new neighbours to our community! šŸ”

Mark your calendars, a great opportunity is coming to our Skate Park!

Goodness grows in Sexsmith!🌱

My morning dog walk gave me a good reason to stop by the Sexsmith Community Garden, located just north of the train station. They are looking fantastic! With plenty of rain, sunshine, and the gift of time from dedicated volunteers and the Sexsmith Wellness Coalition, everything is thriving!

These gardens are a beautiful example of neighbours coming together to create something that benefits our whole community. Before long, they’ll be overflowing with fresh produce that is available for anyone to enjoy.

Are you growing a garden this summer? I’d love to hear what’s growing in your backyard, greenhouse, or in planters of any shape and size! Share a photo in the comments!

At our house, we’ve already been enjoying plenty of fresh strawberries, lettuce, and spinach, and my zucchini and squash plants are looking amazing. I love taking the time to play in the dirt in my little makeshift garden and greenhouse!

If you haven’t visited the community gardens yet, take a walk over and check them out. A huge THANK YOU to the volunteers and the Wellness Coalition for helping this special community space continue to flourish.
