Discover Telkwa: Where Rivers Meet

Discover Telkwa: Where Rivers Meet A riverside jewel bursting with charm and hospitality, Telkwa’s warmth embraces visitors from around the globe.

The picturesque, historic Village of Telkwa sits on the traditional territory of the Gitdumden Clan of the Wet’suwet’en people. The Village of Telkwa is located at the confluence of two world-class salmon-bearing rivers, namely the Bulkley River and Telkwa River. Highway 16 travels through the Village, with the Town of Smithers 15 km to the west and the City of Prince George 356 km to the east. Ne

stled in between the mountains and a myriad of lakes and streams, Telkwa’s spectacular rural, natural setting offers easy access to extensive year-round outdoor activities. Local sightseeing and adventure tour operators offer various organized packages from world-class hunting, sport fishing and flight charters. Locals and visitors enjoy hiking, cycling, canoeing, tubing, rafting, kayaking, paddle-boarding and bird watching. The adventures continue in the winter with phenomenal snowmobiling, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, skating, ice-fishing and downhill skiing at neighbouring mountains. To discover a piece of British Columbia's history, stop at the Telkwa Museum, 1620 Highway 16, or the Village office at 1415 Hankin Avenue for more information.

Flood Watch – Bulkley River and Tributaries
May 6, 2026 at 1400 hours

A Hazard Notice has been issued by Witset First Nation, Town of Smithers, Village of Telkwa, District of Houston, and the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN) effective May 6, 2026 at 1400 hours due to the Flood Watch on the Bulkley River and surrounding tributaries.

Residents are advised that due to the potential for flooding in low lying areas adjacent to the Bulkley River it is recommended that residents exercise extreme caution or limit recreation near and around the river at this time. Fast-moving water and unstable riverbanks increase the risk to public safety.
In the community of Witset it is strongly encouraged that people avoid the banks of the river and canyon.

Please contact the RDBN for more information or if you require support:
