Did you know? The Canadian Forces Snowbirds are flying over Newfoundland and Labrador Wednesday afternoon!

Last week, Prime Minister Trudeau announced the Snowbirds’ jets would fly across Canada as an effort to "salute Canadians doing their part to stop the spread of COVID-19."

"As we watch the Snowbirds fly over our homes, let’s remember that we are all in this together."

You are encouraged to observe the flyover from the safety of your home and refrain from travelling -- and please note, the jets can be loud!

Since 1971, the Snowbirds have proudly flown the Canadian flag throughout North America. In the hearts and minds of millions of Canadians, the Snowbirds are symbols of national pride.

Ramadan, the holiest month of Islamic calender has begun.

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims throughout the world observe fast and offer extensive prayers.

With all of us living through the realities of COVID-19, the Muslism Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (MANAL) is providing live-streaming of both Isha and Taraweeh prayers from their mosque.

The live-stream will be available insha'Allah at: https://livestream.manal.ca.

There will be a link provided at the main website of MANAL at www.manal.ca during the month of Ramadan, which will lead to this live stream.

Please note that this is an experimental system. If there are any issues related to the live stream that come up during the prayers, it is kindly requested that either a phone call be made to the Mosque at 75-ISLAM and/or an email be sent to [email protected] so that the problem may be looked at without delay.

Insha’Allah on Thursday night (First Taraweeh), Imams will recite Surah Baqarah Verse # 1 to 105 (pages 2 to 16). Insha'Allah, MANAL will be sending members a daily email with Quran recitation sequence for Taraweeh prayer during the holy month of Ramadan.

On #HolocaustRemembranceDay, let's remember Philip Riteman, a Holocaust survivor who told Canadians "It is better to love than to hate."

Mr. Riteman, who passed away in 2018, said he found "humanity" in Newfoundland and Labrador.

It wasn’t until 1988 that Riteman started speaking about his experience in the concentration camps, to counter claims that what the Nazis had done was exaggerated
