The Canada–Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Energy Regulator (C-NLOER) has issued calls for bids for exploration licences in the Eastern and South-Eastern Newfoundland regions.

These Calls for Bids include 16 parcels and reflect ongoing efforts to support offshore exploration and strengthen the competitiveness of the Canada–Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Area.

This reflects ongoing work by the C-NLOER and governments to support exploration. A new condition in the bid package requires prospective bidders to engage confidentially with the Provincial Government on its Offshore Exploration Fund.

The C-NLOER will continue to work with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Government of Canada to strengthen the competitiveness of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Area, including measures to reduce the time required for approvals and authorizations, and to move from discoveries to production.

Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore natural gas potential continues to stand out on the global stage.

With the completion of Phase II of the Natural Gas Resource Assessment in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin, total recoverable gas is now estimated between 19.8 and 35.4 trillion cubic feet.

These findings further strengthen our competitive advantages, including proximity to existing infrastructure, shallow water depths, and proven resource areas.

Our government is taking the next steps by advancing a feasibility study, releasing a new natural gas royalty framework, and building a long-term Energy Plan to attract investment, support jobs, and responsibly grow the sector.

This is about unlocking opportunity and strengthening our energy future.

As global demand for responsibly sourced minerals grows, our province remains positioned to support a sustainable and competitive mineral resources sector. We will continue to support mineral exploration and mining through investments in efficient regulatory oversight, and partnerships that advance innovation, safety, and environmental stewardship.
