Wheatland West Firefighters Association were honoured to have been part of the response team to this recent grass fire. Incidents like these are a reminder that protecting our communities is truly a team effort.
On Saturday, August 1, Wheatland County Fire Services responded to a large grass fire near Gleichen.
A sincere thank you to our dedicated crews from Gleichen, Standard, Dalum, Hussar, Rockyford, Wheatland West, Rosebud, and Carseland, along with our partners from Siksika, Strathmore, and Alberta Wildfire. Your teamwork, professionalism, and tireless efforts were instrumental in stopping the fire and preventing it from spreading into nearby homes. We are grateful for your commitment to protecting our communities.
As wildfire season continues, Wheatland County Fire Services encourages all residents to take simple steps to help reduce wildfire risk around their properties:
🔥 Maintain a 1.5-metre non-combustible zone around your home.
🌾 Create a minimum 3-metre buffer around barns, sheds, and other outbuildings by keeping grass cut short.
🚜 If possible, mow and maintain grass in the ditches surrounding your property.
🪵 Regularly remove fallen branches, dry grass, leaves, and other combustible materials from your yard.
A little preparation can make a big difference in protecting your home, your neighbours, and our community.
