🎨🚒 The Sun Peaks FireSmart team, along with our incredible volunteers, had an amazing time at Art Zone Summer Kids Camp!

Kids got a behind-the-scenes look at what firefighters do by cheering us on while we put on structural firefighting gear, touring one of our fire trucks, and getting creative with FireSmart BC colouring books. It’s always a blast sharing fire safety and wildfire preparedness with our youngest community members!

🌿 Have you heard about our Green Waste Collection Program?

You cut it, we haul it!

We’re making it easier than ever to reduce wildfire risk around your home. We even provide green waste bags for simple, hassle-free disposal.

This week, we picked up another bag full of fine fuels, that’s one less source of potential wildfire ignition sitting in someone’s yard. Every bag removed is another step toward a more FireSmart and resilient community.

Check our collection schedule and start clearing those needles, leaves, small branches, and other combustible yard debris. Together, we can make a difference.

Wildfire management isn't a one-agency job.

Every year, we work alongside local fire departments, First Nations, local governments, contractors and partner agencies to prepare for wildfire season.

One way we strengthen those partnerships is through training. Each year, BCWS' Fire Services trains more than 1,500 structural firefighters in specialized Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) training focused on structure protection and defence, helping fire departments integrate into BCWS operations and ensuring resources can respond safely and effectively when wildfires threaten communities.

More than 125 fire departments have also pre-registered personnel and equipment that can be mobilized to support wildfire response when needed.

Wildfire preparedness is built on relationships. The stronger those relationships are before an emergency, the more effective we can be when one occurs.

Once you’re FireSmart, you can’t unsee the risks.

Messy gutters, combustible materials stored next to the house, and flammable vegetation all put your house at risk during wildfire season.

Luckily, you can FireSmart your property in a few simple steps:

🍁 Clear leaves and debris from your gutters
🧯 Store flammable materials at least 10 metres from your home
🪴 Swap combustible plants for fire-resistant vegetation.
