The Town of Swan Hills has now moved from a Fire Ban to a Fire Restriction. Under this restriction, all outdoor wood fires are banned on public lands.

Prohibited:
-Outdoor wood fires on public lands including backcountry and random camping areas
-Any burning, other than a campfire on private land
-Fireworks and exploding targets

Allowed:
-Safe wood campfires on private land including provincial campgrounds with a designated fire ring
-Backyard firepits
-Propane fire pits and natural gas-powered appliances
-Barbecue charcoal briquettes
-CSA approved or ULC certified gas or propane bbq's and pellet cookers
-Indoor wood fires
-Open flame oil devices

The fire restriction will remain in effect until conditions improve.

Due to the extreme fire hazard, Swan Hills has issued a full fire ban, effective Thursday, May 8, 2025. No fire permits will be issued, and all existing fire permits will be suspended until conditions improve within Swan Hills.

The fire ban includes:
- Backyard fire pits,
- Campground fire pits,
- All open burning,
- Fireworks,
- Flame propelled floating lanterns,
- Charcoal briquettes,
- Turkey fryers,
- Tiki torches.

Allowed for use during the fire ban:
- CSA approved or ULC certified gas or propane barbeques used for cooking,
- CSA approved or ULC certified Wood Pellet Smokers,
- Propane and natural gas fire pits,
- Catalytic or infrared-style heaters,
- Electric or propane meat smokers.

The fire ban will remain in effect until conditions improve.

: Forest protection areas in the region and many other communities have moved to a fire ban yesterday/today. Please check your destination if you are travelling to see what is allowed.
