Over the past number of years (from 2004 to 2011), I have academically demonstrated a solid understanding and ability to identify underlying causes of inequity, and both systemic and institutional barriers, as they relate to a multitude of social issues. Throughout my years of post-secondary studies, I have researched and analyzed social issues as they pertain to systemic matters such as racism an
d oppression, as well as other social welfare topics. I have developed a deep understanding of systemic and institutionalized issues with respect to anti-racism and equity matters, as well as matters dealing with human rights. I continue to work with the principles of an Anti-Oppressive Practice and Strengths-Based Framework, which supports my strong orientation towards valuing diversity, inclusion, and equity. In turn, social injustice, inequity, policies (and politics) that lack effectiveness and consideration of socioeconomic diversity and inclusivity, as well as systemic, institutionalized and individual acts of discrimination, racism and oppression - are some examples of issues that are in conflict with my ethical values and practice frameworks. Thus, my overall career motivations are to effect and create systemic and institutional change that helps lead to racial equity, anti-racist policies, frameworks and practices, as well as promoting initiatives that value diversity and inclusion. I am seeking to generate ideas, identify policy, program and service needs as well as implement effective policy changes, strategic ideas and new approaches. My long-term goals are to: create and enhance initiatives, develop new policies and improve institutional practices, increase public engagement, awareness, and inclusion, create new programming and effective delivery of services that supports diverse communities, as well as building and maintaining partnerships with community partners and organizations. My educational background combined with both my lived and professional experience has enabled me to develop a critical understanding of the various needs of racialized and marginalized individuals and communities - on a policy level, public and community level, and institutional level, towards addressing systemic racism and its socioeconomic impacts. My educational and professional experiences provide me with a solid foundation to develop fair practices, policies and strategies, in addition to effective recommendations for areas needing changes and improvements. My academic background has provided me with an understanding of research methods, which will aid my capacity to efficiently analyze, interpret and evaluate information or data, for the purpose of effective policy recommendations. My experience conducting research and analyses from anti-racism and equity seeking lens, will also support a comprehensive review and assessment of existing government policies, programs and services, with the aim to develop improved and fair practices, policies, and strategies that lead to racial equity. Moreover, I have experience conducting presentations on social issues, and I have the capacity to clearly articulate human rights issues with people of differing perspectives, which will also support the development of province wide multi-year racism public education and awareness campaigns, to broad sets of audiences.
