Meet Joe and Manan 👋

Third summer for one of them, first summer as a Trip Leader after being a former youth participant for the other - and they’re both just as excited to be out in nature with our youth.

Hear what’s got them fired up for this season 🛶

Thank you to Romero House for joining us on a 5-day canoe trip! Along the way, campers learned about edible plants and native wildlife while building a strong, supportive community to tackle the challenges of the trip. As Trip Leader Brooke shared, "They came away understanding they were in it together"

Romero House is one of several partnership agencies we are working with this summer. Stay tuned for more stories from the park this summer 🛶🌿🌳

If you ask a youth participant how their canoe trip went, you might only get one word back. Good. Amazing, maybe, if you catch them right after.

It's never the whole story.

Because underneath that one word is a five day trip that taught someone how to portage, how to work with others, and how to sit with quiet in a way most of us never get to anymore.

It's a kid who came in calling himself "at-risk" and came out, decades later, running an elementary school.

It's a volunteer who spent one summer with Project Canoe and still feels the organization's pull, years later.

Fifty years of "good" adds up to something pretty extraordinary.

Take a trip down Project Canoe memory lane with us. 🛶

Nearly 50 years ago, Project Canoe started with a simple idea: the outdoors shouldn't come with a price tag on who gets to experience it. From our early days paddling through the lakes and streams in Temagami to the trips we run in Algonquin Park today, that idea has never changed. Different lakes, different faces, but same mission: getting youth outdoors with no barriers to entry.

As we get closer to our 50th anniversary, we're looking to reconnect with the people who were part of our story over the past five decades. If you were a participant, staff, or volunteer at any point along the way, we want to hear from you. Comment below or send us a DM!

Meet Julia, Project Canoe’s Youth Coordinator, and Marissa, one of our Canoe Trip Leaders! 🛶

We asked them what they’re most excited for this summer and what canoe tripping has taught them over the years. Turns out, some of the best lessons come from being on the water.

Watch to hear more. 🎥
