Brooklyn Alley Pizza

Brooklyn Alley Pizza Neapolitan pizzas cooked in a backyard wood burning oven You can pick up your pizza between 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the alley at the end of Brighton Avenue.

I find myself with a pizza oven and some time on my hands so every Friday evening I will be creating 20 pizzas for people to take home. The pizza will change every week and the first 20 people to respond after I post the week's pizza on Thursday afternoons (at around 4:30) will receive a 15" pizza for a donation of around $15 just to cover my costs. Just follow the smoke. Children's cheese and pep

peroni pizza's can be ordered alongside (and do not count amongst the 20). These are smaller and cost us about $10 to make

Toronto may be in the midst of a food truck revolution, but as is always the case, it's important to remember the wine. And somebody has. Dan Rabinovitch has created what just might be the world's first mobile wine bar, aptly named the Caravin. Fashioned out of an old Boler...

I want to thank everyone for their comments and support. The last 24 hours have been very humbling. I have been taking media inquiries all day the most substantive of which was a visit from the CBC which resulted in a story on the 6:00 news.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2013/07/25/backyard-pizza-shut-down.html

A cult pizza night has ceased its operations for now, after the city investigated complaints that it was an unlicensed business.

There will be no more pizza.

Unfortunately, someone from my neighbourhood has complained to the City of Toronto about the pizza making, and I received a subsequent call from a member of the Municipal Licensing and Standards division. The woman who I spoke with was very nice. She was sympathetic, cordial and actually pretty funny. Not wishing to create unnecessary friction, I have agreed to suspend operations of Brooklyn Alley Pizza immediately and indefinitely.

I have never operated this endeavor as a business. I enjoy meeting and spending time with my neighbours (as well as those people who have ventured from other parts of the city). And I derive great joy from dabbling in the culinary arts. Combining these – fun, food and good friends – was the guiding principle of this little adventure: bringing a bit of joy to the end of people’s work week. The best and most creative way I could think to do that has been to bake pizza.

If I have accomplished that goal with just one of you, then my labour of love has not been in vain.

Thank you all for participating and for making the last few months a real delight.

BAD NEWS: Unfortunately the entire west end is not the only thing that Monday's storm disabled. I just discovered the oven was also inundated. Pizza ovens and water do not get along and I will need to do a short cure which means there will be no pizza this Friday (tomorrow). If enough are interested I will consider doing it on Sunday. Let me know!
