🖋️WRITING THE SHORT STORY OF PLACE: CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP LED BY XU XI🌆
What draws us to write about a particular place, whether it is our home country or elsewhere, or a private, intimate space vs. a public place shared by many. How does place influence the way we shape our stories?
In this creative writing workshop, Xu will lead you through a series of writing prompts with a specific focus on exploring place for your fiction. The goal is to leave with the start of a piece that you can develop into a short story. Come with a laptop or notebook and be prepared to write and talk about writing, including about publishing short stories.
No background necessary other than a love for reading fiction and literature.

📖HORIZON HONG KONG: SELECTED STORIES🇭🇰

One of Hong Kong’s leading English writers investigates and invigorates the transnational, transcultural, and translingual dimensions of her beloved city in these 22 stories covering the 1960s to the present day. Written against the backdrop of tremendous political change—from Hong Kong’s transformation from a British colony to a Chinese Special Administrative Region in 1997 to the political turmoil of the 2014 Occupy Hong Kong protests and the 2019 Polytechnic University occupation—Xu’s stories capture the intimate realities of lives led and choices made under the shadow of a city that looms large in our imagination.

Join us for a special afternoon with Xu Xi 許素細, where she will introduce and read from her new book Horizon Hong Kong: Selected Stories. The event will be moderated by Dr. Christopher Payne, University of Toronto. Book sale & signing follows with refreshments.

Starting today on August 17 and running through September 18, step into the Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library to discover this unique photography exhibition by Sonja Ng — Visiting Home.🏠

It is a collection of a nostalgic venture into a distant place that once home, and exploring its unique social-cultural identity with a “curious-see”, and exploring faith in black and white. This collection consists of eighteen original digital canvas exhibit photo prints, with hanging loops, dowels top and bottom, and influence from the artist’s early training in traditional Chinese painting.

🐝🐝 千里之行始於足下！利銘澤典宬正進行期刊館藏點算及記錄更新，目標是讓讀者從圖書館目錄中清楚得悉各刊物的確實保存期數，方便師生及研究者索閱。

此項計劃與多大圖書館本部Metadata Services 元數據服務組合作，以AI 程式輔助使期數記錄更新更有效率。視乎人手及累積館藏期數，估計還需半年或以上方可完成。現階段已整理更新的刊物期數記錄二萬多條。長遠來說，這清點及記錄更新工作是必須的，我們期待能早日完成。清晰無誤的館藏記錄對讀者及圖書館均為重要。

知悉所藏方能補缺，圖書館一直積極為重要香港書刊補缺，作永久保存。在此𧫴向幫助補缺的讀者致謝。

🐝🐝 Beesie busy! Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library is undertaking an exciting project of serial itemization to enhance users’ access to the collection! 📚✨

In collaboration with University of Toronto Libraries’ central Metadata Services and peer department libraries, RCLCHKL is utilizing AI application to transform the former title-level descriptions to item-level holding details. This creates a “macro-map” of the resources, greatly improving visibility for our community.

The project will take some more months to a year, upon completion, users can easily find our actual holdings in the library catalogue, and for the library to identify and fill collection gaps!

We thank our readers who helped us to fill gaps and strengthen our collection!

「港足微記憶」展覽以「微觀歷史」的視角出發，展出一系列珍貴的歷史文獻、舊相片、經典球衣，以及球賽門票、場刊等紙品珍藏。讓大家穿梭時空，重溫香港足球的輝煌歲月。

這些物件不僅記錄了昔日綠茵場上的熱血與激情，更凝結了幾代香港人的日常記憶。展覽透過這些微小而真切的歷史碎片，勾勒出足球文化的傳承、身分認同的形塑，以及社會變遷的獨特軌跡。

😎⚽️⚽️ Echoes of the Pitch: A Vignette of Hong Kong Football History

The exhibition adopts a perspective of "micro-history" to showcase a collection of precious historical documents, vintage photographs, classic jersey, as well as paper memorabilia like match tickets and official programmes. It invites everyone to travel through time and relive the golden eras of Hong Kong football.

These items not only record the passion and fervor on the pitches of yesteryear, but also crystallize the daily memories of generations of Hong Kong people in the stands. Through these tiny yet authentic fragments of history, the exhibition outlines the inheritance of football culture, the shaping of identity, and the unique trajectory of social transformation.
