Sometimes the hardest part comes after the stressful period is over.
When you’re in the middle of getting through something, your attention is often focused on functioning, problem-solving, and simply making it to the next thing. Once the pressure eases, there may finally be room for the exhaustion, sadness, irritability, or anxiety that had been pushed aside to show up.
That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing worse. Sometimes it means your mind and body are only now getting the chance to register what they’ve been carrying.
If you notice that calm often brings up more emotion than you expected, therapy can help you understand what’s happening underneath and find ways to move through it with more support.
