We started our gathering with a beautiful sunny day on the land. Led in ceremony by Deb and Bonnie and their Scaabeg, helpers. Connecting with our plant, animal, land, water and information worker kin. Grateful for our delegates and their friends and family who joined us! ☀️😁

🌿✨ A gentle reminder as we prepare to gather ✨🌿

We’re so excited to come together in less than a week!
To make sure our forum remains a space that is respectful, responsible, and rooted in community care, this is our IILF code of conduct. 💛

There is zero tolerance for discrimination, harassment, or violence in any form — which may be based on anything that is integral to our participants’ knowing and being.

At IILF, participants commit to:

🌎 Honor and care for the Lands and Waters where we are gathered
💬 Engage in respectful dialogue
🧡 Respect local protocols
🤝 Hold things shared in confidence
👂 Practice active listening & respond in good faith
🔥 Uphold Indigenous resurgence and sovereignty
📣 Uplift Indigenous voices and perspectives
🙋‍♀️ Seek and respect consent
🧠 Unlearn the values of the imperialist, white-supremacist, capitalist, heteropatriarchy

📵 Please do not take photos or videos during ceremonies or teachings, and always ask for a speaker's consent before sharing anything on social media.

📣 Call for Papers – IILF 2025 Conference Proceedings

We’re honored to collaborate with the National Indigenous Knowledge and Language Alliance (NIKLA) to publish the IILF 2025 proceedings in their inaugural issue, launching in 2026!

The inaugural issue of the National Indigenous Knowledge and Language Alliance (NIKLA) Journal will highlight Knowledge shared at the International Indigenous Librarians’ Forum (IILF) in Tkaronto. Centered on the theme of "Our Dish / Dish with One Spoon," the issue will reflect Indigenous teachings about our shared responsibilities to the Land and each other. 😁🌿🌊

We invite interested Indigenous authors who are presenting at IILF to consider preparing their research for publication in this issue. We also welcome theorizing from allies that walk alongside Indigenous Nations and whose work centres the stewardship and obligations to Land held by Indigenous communities.

The editors welcome diverse forms including art, poetry, songs, and zines, alongside traditional peer-reviewed articles.

Keynote speakers announced!
We are excited to announce this forums keynote speakers.

Tanya Talaga is an award-winning journalist and author. She is the first Anishinaabe woman to deliver the prestigious CBC Massey Lectures. As a proud member of the Fort William First Nation, Tanya is deeply committed to amplifying Indigenous voices and sharing their stories through her bestselling books, documentaries, podcasts, and powerful keynotes. Her writing and work humanize the painful legacy of residential schools while offering hope for a more inclusive and equitable future. Tanya’s bestselling books, Seven Fallen Feathers and All Our Relations, have earned national recognition, and her latest book, The Knowing, is based on her family’s experience in residential schools and has inspired a four-part CBC docuseries. In addition to her writing, Tanya founded Makwa Creative Inc. to create space for Indigenous stories through documentary films and podcasts. She continues to be a trailblazer, using her platform to create positive change and bring awareness to the issues facing Indigenous communities.

Cindy Hohl, President, American Library Association
Cindy, MBA/MLIS, is a proud member of the Santee Sioux Nation and currently serves as the President of the American Library Association (ALA). She’s also the project manager for the Bridging Knowledge Scholarship at SJSU, sponsored by IMLS, and a former president of the American Indian Library Association (AILA). Passionate about Intellectual Freedom, Cindy is an ex-officio trustee on the Freedom to Read Foundation and a member of the Missouri Library Association's Intellectual Freedom Committee. As the first ALA Spectrum Scholar elected President, she advocates for diversity in the library field through mentorship and leadership.
