Foothills Bison Restoration Society Promoting the vision and reality of bringing wild bison back to public land in the Alberta foothills.

Dear Donors,

Thank you for your generous support for the return of wild bison to Alberta public lands!

Your money will go towards integrating the science and indigenous knowledge to facilitate the restoration of this prairie keystone species to Alberta wildlands.

This past fall we launched our initial media campaign and had some success e.g. Blackfoot Elders, conservationists join to bring bison back to Alberta’s Eastern Slopes - Windspeaker.com

Our recent focus has been on our relationship with our First Nation friends in the treaty 7 territory where we are proposing the first Bison reintroduction. We were recently honoured with a Pipe Ceremony that involved elders from both Piikani and Kainai as well as our directors and some prominent Albertans.
We all see restoring Bison as a meaningful act of reconciliation and plan to work together to achieve that end.

This winter we are planning a wide range of talks for Edmonton, Calgary, Banff, and several other towns starting in January and are expanding our presence on social media (you can find us on Facebook). You can view the 8 minute video that we completed this summer at Fundraiser by Mike Sawyer : Foothills Bison Restoration Project (gofundme.com) . Please share it widely.

Thank you for your support and warm regards,

Mike Judd

Buffalo shaped this region long before ‘Edmonton’ existed. The buffalo once roamed freely, just like the river did before the days of riprap and the Walterdale bridge. Acheological evidence and story tell us they were ubiquitous in the river valley. The disappearance of buffalo from the river va...
