Join the festivities of Fête de la Saint-Jean-Baptiste at the Sibley Historic Site on Sunday, June 23rd from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. This event was created in partnership with the Dakota County Historical Society, Quebec Office in Chicago, Alliance Française Mpls/St Paul , and the French American Heritage Foundation, we work to bring to life Fête de la Saint-Jean-Baptiste by taking elements of the past and present traditions to create a unique, new celebration that will honor French-Canadians, Canadians, and French culture.

French-Canadian and French fur traders, the dependable and hard-working men of the Fur Trade who moved furs and goods across North America, set little time aside for themselves. Although, there were two exceptions! A rendez-vous was a time of great celebration, but even the most boisterous rendez-vous would not come close to the pomp and celebration of Fête de la Saint-Jean-Baptiste, which translates to Saint John the Baptist Day in English.

Traditionally celebrated on June 24, it would include large bonfires, food, alcohol, trade, dancing, and singing. Today, Fête de la Saint Jean Baptiste is still celebrated in Quebec and is called La Fête Nationale du Quebec, or the National Day of Quebec in English. Even though the time of the Voyageur is long past, there are still French-Canadians present in Minnesota and in the United States.

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️Happy Pride Month!🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

This morning, we had a great surprise! The Pride Flag was raised in front of the Wrigley Building. (The Magnificent Mile)

For this special month, we would like to underscore the active work of our Delegate, Jean-François Hould , for the LGBTQ+ community. In 2023, when he was at Québec Government Office in Washington, he won the Trade LGBTQ+ Person of the Year award from GATT DC (LGBT Professionals in International Trade) .

Through all his public service at the Ministère des Relations internationales, from Québec Government Office in New York to the Chicago office, Jean-François has stood out as a strong leader for the LGBTQ+ community.

L'érection de la Tribune Tower a marqué l'histoire architecturale du XXe siècle. Ce gratte-ciel néo-gothique a été construit à l'occasion de concours international organisé par le Chicago Tribune pour souligner le 75e anniversaire du journal. Jusqu'à tout récemment, le Chicago Tribune y tenait encore son siège social.

Avant la construction de la Tribune Tower, les correspondants du Chicago Tribune avaient rapporté des pierres et des briques provenant de divers sites historiques importants à travers le monde. 149 de ces fragments ont été incorporés dans les niveaux inférieurs du bâtiment et sont étiquetés en fonction de leur lieu d'origine. On y trouve des échantillons du mur de Berlin, du Taj Mahal, du Parthénon, de la grande muraille de Chine et du Séminaire de Québec!

The film RU was very well received last night at the Alliance Française de Chicago. It's a huge honor for us that this Quebec film was presented in Chicago.

Actor Jean Bui, who plays the father in the film adaptation of Kim Thuy's novel, traveled from Montreal to Chicago expressly for the event organized by Asian Pop-Up Cinema by Sophia's Choice. We were pleased to support this initiative with Consulat général du Canada à Chicago - Consulate General of Canada in Chicago . The screening concluded with a discussion between Sophia Wong Boccio and Jean Bui. The audience was captivated by the eloquence of the Quebec actor.

This event took place exactly on the Journée Internationale de la Francophonie, March 20. It was also the launch party for Asian Pop-Up Cinema's 18th season.

We are equally grateful for the organizational work of the Alliance Française which has an audacious program during the Festival de la Francophonie. Thank you to Aimée Laberge and her team for making Francophone cultures shine with such dedication.
