After a super-busy Autumn, the Red Devils got in the festive spirit with the Holidays around the corner. There was mirth! There was frivolity! There was charity! Best of all for the Chief of Staff, he and his team won the Horse-Head Trophy – rather than the other trophy – at the Christmas hockey game. With Red Devils settling in for the Holidays, we wish all our friends, family and former Red Devils all the best of the Holiday season and the New Year!

This time, Division PT coincided with the Terry Fox Run so the Red Devils joined the Kingston garrison in walking and running to honour Terry Fox’s legacy. Good times with Red Devils, family… and dogs.😄

Some messes in Kingston look a little more devilish thanks to our former commander, BGen Louis Lapointe. A framed print of “The Red Patch Devils” by War Artist Roger Chabot, with plaque, now hangs in the Warrant Officers and Sergeants Mess; while an etched-glass pane adorns the entrance to the Red Devils Den at Fort Frontenac Officers Mess. This was a team effort on both accounts. Sergeant (retired) S.M. Anderson, CD, the father of BGen Lapointe’s Aide-de-Camp Captain Rob Anderson, made the frame for the print; while BGen Lapointe’s spouse, Colonel Angie Lapointe, performed the etching on the glass. Our many thanks to those involved in adding these tasteful additions to our messes, and best wishes to BGen Lapointe and his family on their new adventures.

For the record, this was NOT a Field Exercise! 😄 We just decided to shake out our tents and break them in while conducting Exercise READY DEVIL – because you never know when they will come in handy. Besides engaging in civilized tenting outside the headquarters, the Red Devils shot pistols and rifles, with some evening activities thrown in, before ending the week’s training with a trip to the Gas Hut. With old and new faces coming together after the summer season, this was a great opportunity to ensure we maintained our qualifications for high-readiness deployments. Now for a busy Fall of collective training.

Time flies when you are Commander of the 1st Canadian Division. It doesn’t seem so long since BGen Louis Lapointe took command of the Division from MGen Misener in 2023, but the Red Devils have done a lot during his time in command. Now, BGen Lapointe hands over command to BGen J.F. Cauden before heading to Ottawa to take command of Canadian Joint Forces Command. We Red Devils welcome BGen Cauden, who comes to the Division with a wealth of fresh experience from his time as Deputy Commander (Manoeuvre) of NATO’s Multinational Division North in Latvia. Best wishes to BGen Lapointe in his new post, and welcome aboard to BGen Cauden!
