Family & Children's Services - St.Thomas and Elgin

Family & Children's Services - St.Thomas and Elgin Family and Children’s Services (FACS) is a child protection agency mandated by Ontario’s Child, Youth and Family Services Act.

Our Mission is to protect and support children and youth in partnership with families and communities, within Elgin County. Each year, FACS-Elgin protection workers investigate hundreds of cases of alleged child abuse, neglect, abandonment, and severe conflicts between parents and children. In cases where a child's immediate safety is at risk, the agency begins an investigation at once. In many in

stances, the protection worker will offer follow-up counselling and referral services to address identified problems. Follow-up services are often provided by a mutual agreement between the protection worker and the family. In cases where an agreement cannot be reached, FACS-Elgin may request the intervention of the Ontario Court, Provincial Division, to order a plan of service. If the protection worker feels that a child cannot be protected in his or her own home, the child will be placed in a foster home or other place of safety. Charitable Donation Number
FACS-Elgin is happy to accept donations from the community to help assist us in our goals. Our charitable donation number is 12990 6335 RR0001.

Because of you, a child will get their first week at camp.

This year, our community showed up for LemonAID Day and raised an incredible $18,564.30 for the Elgin Children's Foundation.

That number means campfires. New friendships. A kid discovering who they can be, one week at a time. For some, it's their first night ever away from home. For others, it's the first time they truly feel like they belong.

Camp isn't just a week away, it's confidence that lasts a lifetime.
A huge thank you to the partners who made the day happen: Doug Tarry Homes (title sponsor), Wendy's (lemonade!), McBain Signs & Graphics, and New Era Grafix.

But most of all, thank YOU. Every glass of lemonade, every donation, every person who showed up, you built this. You are this community. 💛

One home can change a child's whole world. Right now, Elgin needs more people willing to open their door.

There's no single picture of what that looks like. Single, coupled, retired, renting, with kids already at home or without: what matters isn't your household type. It's being steady, safe, and willing to show up.

Curious what fostering really looks like? Hear it straight from Elgin caregivers. Watch the videos - here is a link to our YouTube channel;

We need homes that reflect Elgin's diversity, because the kids we support do too. If you've wondered whether fostering is for someone like you, it is.
