Sexual Assault Centre for Quinte and District Sexual Assault Programs including crisis line, 1:1 counselling, support groups, and Paths of Courage

In 1987 an Emergency Health Care Needs study found a great need for sexual assault services in the counties of Hastings and Prince Edward. In 1990 some local women, including women from the Safe Homes agencies, formed a committee to solicit funds for sexual assault services. With funding from the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services this committee hired a local therapist to facilitate a group to train other therapists to work with survivors of sexual violence. In addition, they were able to obtain funding from the Ontario Women’s Directorate to provide Hastings and Prince Edward Counties with a Sexual Assault Protocol and Community Service Plan. Next, the committee secured an $80 000 grant from the Ontario Ministry of Health and hired a coordinator for the Centre. The Sexual Assault Centre for Quinte and District officially began operation on June 24, 1991. In addition to Centre activities that are focused in the Belleville area, sexual assault services and co-ordination of services are provided to outlying areas. SACQD services extend throughout Hastings and Prince Edward Counties, through locations in Belleville, Trenton, Picton and Bancroft.

The OCRCC has responded to the Cornell 57 allegations.

Another survivor. Another institution. Another investigation.

Another reminder of why survivor voices must be heard, believed, and supported.

Sexual violence is not an isolated issue. It is a systemic one. And accountability cannot end with an investigation.

We believe survivors. We stand with survivors. We will not be silent.

Solidarity

We are a proud member of the Ontario Coalition of R**e Crisis Centres (OCRCC - Sexual Assault Support).

The OCRCC brings together sexual assault centres from across Ontario to strengthen survivor support, advocate for systemic change, and work collectively toward ending sexual violence.

Last week, our Executive Director spent two days in Toronto with incredible leaders from sexual assault centres across the province - sharing ideas, tackling challenges, and strengthening the relationships that make our movement so powerful.

We're grateful to be part of this passionate, dedicated community of advocates!

Sexual violence doesn’t only thrive because of those who cause harm.

It thrives when others see it, hear it, joke about it, excuse it—or stay silent.

“Bro code” is not loyalty when it protects harmful behaviour.

Call it out. Step in.

Your silence protects the culture.
Your intervention can disrupt it.

Believe survivors. Be an active bystander.

Today, SACQD staff came together at Market Square to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

We gathered to listen, learn, reflect, and stand alongside our community in honouring residential school Survivors, their families and communities, and remembering the children who never returned home.

Reconciliation is not the work of one day. It is an ongoing commitment to listening, learning, acknowledging the truth of our shared history, and carrying that knowledge forward through meaningful action.

Today and every day, Every Child Matters. 🧡
