A mi

A large canvas wall tent was found languishing in a garage near Agassiz, BC. It was purchased with the idea of reanimating it as a portable exhibition and event space of sorts. Over time The Tent Shop evolved into a divergent project (including an online store/archive) for sharing a range of interests including; art and peripherals, unique objects/ephemera,16mm film, sound/field recordings, nature

, local history, vernacular architecture/design, tea, gambling and experimental commerce. The wall tent is made of heavy canvas and was often used as long term lodging for remote living. While carrying the smell and feel of it's past it now exists as mobile venue, social space and a sculptural object in itself taking on various physical forms (rug, lamp shade, drop cloth, shelter etc) as a backdrop for collaborative events. Previous events and installations include: Audain Gallery 'Geometry of Knowing' opening, SFU Gallery 'Burnaby Mtn Honour Stand', Kingsgate Mall 'Happenings', Western Front (40th anniversary), VIVO (Institutions for Artists Event), The Vinegar Factory, Western Front (TOQUE), ECU Library, Hardscrabble Gallery, Solder & Sons and online at Sight Unseen.

Jeff Chute did the Western Front's chart. Come watch him try to explain it downstairs in the dance studio where there will be an old wall tent set up for some reason.

Tiziana La Melia will be doing a reading!

Samnan Kanomroak will be doing traditional Thai fruit carving!

Did I mention 'The Beachcombers' screening on 16mm film?

SFU 'Vancouver Soundscape 1973' audio recording. Listen to sounds of the city back when Western Front was born.

Another 16mm film called 'Totem Pole' that Erik Hood found somewhere will be screened.

Also Truffaut's 'Les Mistons' on 16mm too thanks to Richard Payment at the UBC Film Archive!

Rebecca Lemire will be talking about Vancouver architecture and public/private space in relation to Western Front!

There will be Moroccan mint tea served as well..
