Statement from Vice-Admiral D.A. Charlebois:

The tragic loss of four Canadian Armed Forces members at CFB Wainwright is being felt across the entire Defence Team and throughout the Royal Canadian Navy. On behalf of all RCN sailors, members and families, I extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends, colleagues and units of those who lost their lives. Our thoughts are also with the members who were injured as they receive care and begin the difficult road to recovery, their loved ones, and everyone affected by this tragedy .

In moments such as this, the Canadian Armed Forces comes together as one family. The Royal Canadian Navy stands alongside our Canadian Army and Defence Team colleagues in mourning our fallen, supporting those who are injured, and honouring the service, dedication and memory of those we have lost.

On October 9th, Chief Tibbets achieved a major career milestone when he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer 1st Class by Capt(N) Kooiman, alongside several of his peers. As a key leader within the Canadian Submarine Force, Chief Tibbets dedication, professionalism, and commitment have made a lasting impact, and he will soon take on the important role of Canadian Submarine Force Chief. Congratulations to CPO1 Rob Tibbets on this well-deserved promotion and exciting next chapter in his career!

Le 9 octobre, le premier maître de 2e classe Tibbets a franchi une étape importante de sa carrière en étant promu au grade de premier maître de 1re classe par le Capv Kooiman, aux côtés de plusieurs de ses pairs. En tant que principal dirigeant au sein de la Force sous-marine canadienne, le dévouement, le professionnalisme et l’engagement du PM 2 Tibbets ont eu une influence durable. Il assumera bientôt les fonctions importantes de premier maître de la Force sous-marine canadienne. During a recent visit to CANSUBFOR Det Halifax, Capt(N) Kooiman and CPO1 Langlois had the to opportunity to present awards to very deserving members of the Unit. One member was also promoted.

PO2 Neron promotion to PO1.

Lors d’une récente visite à la Force sous-marine canadienne (FSC) au Dét Halifax, le Capv Kooiman et le PM 1 Langlois ont eu le plaisir de remettre plusieurs distinctions à des membres de l’unité qui se sont particulièrement illustrés. Un membre a également été promu.

Promotion : le M 2 Néron a été promu au grade M 1.
Meilleur candidat du CESM 0086 : le Mat 3 Coetzee.

On July 12, 2026, His Majesty’s Canadian Submarine (HMCS) Corner Brook participated in a planned live-fire sinking exercise (SINKEX), contributing to the sinking of decommissioned USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) off the coast of Hawaii during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2026.

During the SINKEX, participating units from Australia, Canada, Japan, Spain, and the United States Navy, Air Force, and Army gained proficiency in tactics, targeting and live-firing against a surface ship at sea. HMCS Corner Brook was the final unit to engage Mobile Bay, employing an MK 48 heavyweight torpedo that demonstrated the submarine's precision strike capability in a complex multinational training environment and ultimately sent the ship to the bottom of the ocean.

Live-fire exercises deliver hands-on, realistic training that sharpens partner nations' capabilities to coordinate, plan and execute sophisticated maritime operations, including precision targeting and strike capabilities.

Le 12 juillet 2026, le sous-marin de la classe VICTORIA de la Marine royale canadienne, le NCSM Corner Brook, a participé à un exercice planifié et réussi de destruction d’un navire par tirs réels (SINKEX), qui a contribué à couler le USS Mobile Bay (CG-53), désarmé, au large des côtes d’Hawaï, dans le cadre de l’exercice RIM OF THE PACIFIC (RIMPAC) 2026.

Pendant le SINKEX, les unités participantes de l’Australie, du Canada, du Japon, de l’Espagne ainsi que de la Marine, de l’Armée de l’air et de l’Armée de terre des États-Unis ont perfectionné leurs compétences en matière de tactiques, de ciblage et de tirs réels contre un navire de surface en mer. Le NCSM Corner Brook a été la dernière unité à engager l’ancien USS Mobile Bay, en utilisant une torpille lourde Mk 48 qui a démontré la capacité de frappe de précision du sous-marin dans un environnement d’entraînement multinational complexe et qui a finalement envoyé le navire par le fond.

Les exercices de tirs réels offrent un entraînement pratique et réaliste qui renforce les capacités des pays partenaires à coordonner, planifier et exécuter des opérations maritimes sophistiquées, notamment en matière de ciblage et de frappe de précision.

CANSUBFOR Det Victoria said goodbye to one of our own upon the completion of the NATO Submarine Escape and Rescue Working Group held in CFB Esquimalt the 20th – 26th of June. CPO2 Nelson Harvey’s unrelentless hard work and dedication made this event a huge success. CPO2 Harvey has now commenced his (according to him) last posting at Whitby Island, Washington, USA. Thank-you Chief Harvey for your years of dedication to not only CANSUBFOR, but your work ensuring that all submariners are safe! All the best on your posting.

La FSC au Dét Victoria a dit au revoir à l’un des siens à l’issue du Groupe de travail de l’OTAN sur l’évacuation et le sauvetage des sous-marins, tenu à la BFC Esquimalt du 20 au 26 juin. Grâce à son travail acharné et à son dévouement sans relâche, le PM 2 Nelson Harvey a largement contribué au succès de cette activité. Le PM 2 Harvey a désormais pris ses fonctions à Whitby Island, dans l’État de Washington, aux États-Unis, pour ce qui sera, selon ses propres termes, sa dernière affectation. Merci, premier maître Harvey, pour toutes ces années de dévouement non seulement envers la FSC, mais également pour votre travail visant à garantir la sécurité de tous les sous-mariniers! Nous vous souhaitons bonne chance dans votre nouvelle affectation.

During the week of 20 – 26 June 2026, CANSUBFOR Det Victoria hosted the NATO Submarine Escape and Rescue Working Group. 114 participants from 21 Nations and 3 Organizations participated and by all accounts, thoroughly enjoyed the week and the stunning views from both the Chief and Petty Officers Mess, and the Wardroom. Many took the opportunity to explore the area and all it has to offer.

Au cours de la semaine du 20 au 26 juin 2026, la FSC au Dét Victoria, a accueilli le Groupe de travail de l’OTAN sur l’évacuation et le sauvetage des sous-marins. Au total, 114 participants provenant de 21 pays et de trois organisations ont participé à cette rencontre. Selon les commentaires recueillis, ils ont grandement apprécié leur séjour, notamment les magnifiques points de vue offerts depuis le mess des premiers maîtres et maîtres ainsi que le carré des officiers. Bon nombre d’entre eux ont également profité de l’occasion pour découvrir la région et tout ce qu’elle a à offrir.

Two of our East Coast members were recently promoted by LCdr Imai. Lt(N) Francois Ouattara – LOGO – was promoted to LCdr. S1 Alexandra Rush – MMT was promoted to Master Sailor.
