"This is more than art- it is a living connection to our land and the community now built upon it. We hope it inspires everyone who sees it to reflect on the deep history our People hold here," said Chief Ron Sam. "We want to extend our sincere thanks to the dedicated working group and the incredible artists who brought this vision to life- it is through their creativity and commitment that our culture is shared so beautifully within xwsəyq’әm, now referred to as the Inner Harbour."

“We are inviting the CRD to walk down a new path with us. Since the CRD operates within our territory, it is important that we work to understand each other,” said Songhees Chief Ron Sam. “After all,” he continued, “Our people were here long before the CRD or any of its municipalities. This Protocol Agreement reflects the strength of our Nation and our commitment to working collaboratively with our neighbours.”
