Aboriginal Infant Development Programs (AIDP) began in 1992 in response to the need for culturally appropriate supports for Indigenous children and families. In 2003, the AIDP Provincial Office was established through the efforts of Dana Brynelsen, IDP Provincial Advisor, with support from the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development. Today, about 55 AIDP programs operate in Indigenous communities across British Columbia, with approximately 125 consultants supporting families with young children.
We celebrate the dedication, compassion, and hard work of AIDP consultants, whose commitment continues to uplift children, families, and communities across British Columbia.

Aboriginal Supported Child Development (ASCD) was created to ensure Indigenous children who require extra support can fully participate in childcare, preschool, before- and after-school programs, and community settings while remaining connected to their culture, family, and community.

ASCD grew in the early 2000s in response to the need for Indigenous-led, culturally grounded support services. The ASCD Provincial Office was established in 2010, when provincial funding strengthened and expanded program coordination across British Columbia. Today, around 60 programs and approximately 135 consultants support Indigenous children and families, helping to create inclusive, culturally safe environments where children can learn, grow, and thrive alongside their peers.

Grounded in values of relationships, respect, inclusion, family-centred practice, and cultural safety, ASCD works in partnership with families, caregivers, educators, and communities to support the whole child.

We acknowledge and honour the dedication of ASCD consultants whose knowledge, care, and commitment make this work possible every day across the province.

Together, we are creating stronger, more inclusive communities where every child has the opportunity to belong and succeed. 💙

To have a strong, inclusive child care system, we need action and stronger laws. BC needs a clear, legislated mandate aligned with the UNCRPD that requires all early learning and child care programs to meaningfully include children with disabilities from the start. Every child has the right to belong, participate, and thrive.

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the achievements of the 2SLGBTQI+ community and recognize the ongoing importance of advocacy, inclusion, and belonging 🏳️‍🌈

Many Indigenous communities have long recognized and honoured people who today may identify as Two-Spirit. While teachings and roles vary among Nations, Two-Spirit people have often held important cultural, spiritual, and community responsibilities.

Join us in celebrating the contributions of Two-Spirit and LGBTQI+ people and reflecting on the importance of creating spaces where all people feel seen, respected, and connected.
