We're asking for the public's help as we investigate repeated acts of vandalism and theft targeting speed reduction signs in the 4200, 4300 and 4400 blocks of Torquay Drive.

The Saanich Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the Durham Regional Police Service following the tragic death of Constable in Training (CIT) Tyrone Magbitang, 27, who was involved in a motor vehicle collision while travelling to the Ontario Police College on July 7, 2026. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and all those affected by this profound loss.

UPDATE:
The victim of the assault that took place on July 3, sadly has succumbed to their injuries. Our condolences to their family and friends.
The charge against Suleyman Budak has been upgraded to murder and conduct of the investigation transferred to the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU).

The Saanich Police Major Crime Unit is investigating a serious assault that took place in the 4000 block of Quadra Street just before 5 p.m. on July 3.
The victim remains in hospital in critical condition. The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault.
We are asking anyone who witnessed the assault or recorded video of the incident to contact [email protected].

We will be deploying a CCTV camera at the Saanich Strawberry Festival on July 5 in support of our operations to ensure public safety at this event. The camera will be in place in accordance with privacy laws and will be removed at the conclusion of the event.
