Last week I had the privilege of presenting Your Place Victoria to the Saanich Rotary — and what a room it was.

Your Place Victoria is a social enterprise owned by Our Place Society, built on a simple but powerful idea: that people who have completed long-term therapeutic recovery from addiction deserve more than a second chance — they deserve a real career, a living wage, and a place in our community.

That is what we are building. A professional landscaping company that holds itself to a high standard, creates meaningful employment, and proves every single day that a charity-owned business can be part of the solution to some of our city’s most pressing challenges.

The Rotary members got it. They asked questions for over half an hour — about the model, the people, the mission, the future. That kind of engagement tells you something. People are hungry for this kind of story. Hope, strategy, professional excellence, and real community impact all in one place.

Wet leaves do more damage to a Victoria lawn than frost ever will.

Our winters are mild and soaked, so leaves never dry out and blow off — they mat down, hold water, and leave you with moss and bare patches by March. Clearing them now is the cheapest lawn repair there is.

We’re booking fall cleanups across Victoria. Leaf pickup, bed cleanup, hedge shaping.

And every yard we take on puts people rebuilding their life back to work.

Our crew made the Times Colonist!

Reporter, Roxanne Egan-Elliott, spent time with three of our people: Stacey, our office coordinator, and Caden and Derica on the crews. It is a story about what steady, respected work does for someone rebuilding a life.

Derica, who joined us in June as our first female landscaper, put it plainly: "This is my shot."

Twice in a little over a year is unusual for a landscaping company.
