The Village of Westport's goal is to provide a recreational area for leisure, sports and the arts for the community, actively engaging all age groups inclusive of ability and age. We are opening possibilities for future parks and recreational programming while beautifying and revitalizing our village and making it a destination to visit and live.


---History of the Park---

Hiram “Buster” Lockwoo

d, Nephew of Dr. A.L. Lockwood, born in Westport, Director of Lockwood Foundation, approached the village to revitalize the area in 1987. (Ambrose Lorne) Lockwood was born March 30th, 1888 in Westport, Ontario. He attended Westport Public School, Athens High School and went on to McGill for medical training. In 1914 he enlisted on the front lines of the surgical medical unit and was a pioneer in thoracic surgery. He received Distinguished Service Order and the Military Cross for his service in WW1. In 1922 he opened the Lockwood Clinic in Toronto which is still in existence today. He has been recognized for his international reputation for contributions to surgical technique and published literature. Dr. Lockwood died in 1982 and is buried in Elgin.
