Welcome, June ☀️

With summer just around the corner, June brings longer days, greener landscapes, and more time spent on the land and waters across SON Territory.

Throughout the month, we’ll continue sharing updates, highlighting community events, and supporting important conversations connected to the environment, SON rights and interests, and community priorities. We look forward to staying connected with Members—both online and in community.

Be sure to check back and follow along.

🌿 Educational Wednesday: Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC)

Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) is recognized in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). It reflects the importance of Indigenous Nations being meaningfully involved in decisions that may impact our lands, rights, and interests.

FPIC means Indigenous Nations should have access to clear information, be engaged before decisions are made, and have the ability to give or withhold consent.

At SON, the Environment Office supports this work by reviewing proposed activities, identifying potential impacts, and helping inform decision-making related to SON Rights and Interests.
