Institute of Power Engineers - Winnipeg Branch The Institute of Power Engineers, a national organization, was formed by the issuing of a Letters of Patent in January 1940.

The Winnipeg branch of the Institute of Power Engineers is located In Manitoba, Canada and is situated on the great North American Plains at the geographical center of North America. Under the Charter and Constitution, the Greater Winnipeg branch was formed in 1952. The Winnipeg Branch of the Institute of Power Engineers has been serving the Power Engineers of Manitoba ever since. Our aims and pur

poses are:

To promote business relations, social activities and mutual understanding among power engineers. To cooperate in the interests of the profession with other technical societies and with Municipal, Provincial and Federal authorities. To protect the interests and to assist in the advancement of the members. To formulate and preserve a professional code of ethics, and, generally to assist the power engineer in the discharge of his technical and civic duties. To provide power engineers with opportunities for a continuing advancement through education and the exchange of knowledge and skills. To promote public awareness of the role-played by the power engineer in our power dependant economy. To guarantee standards and regulations for the benefit and safety of power engineers and the general public. The Winnipeg Branch is made up of power engineers and related professionals. We have representation on the national level along with representatives on various advisory committees including Red River College and the Power Engineers Advisory Board. We have monthly meetings from September through May, which have an educational component together with discussions on legislation, employment, and other topics related to the power engineer. We often have plant tours and in December and May we have dinner meetings. The spring has normally been the time for the Golf Tournament with all levels of golfers welcome. There is a monthly newsletter, The IPE Bulletin, which is mailed to all members.

Please be advised......... The Winnipeg branch and all other Canadian branches of the IPE will have their web pages under the umbrella of the National site at "nipe.ca". The Winnipeg branch website will no longer exist after August 11th.

Mechanical problems have knocked the steam out of the miniature train at Assiniboine Park. Conductor Tim Buzunis said the steam locomotive has been open to the public for just one day so far this year.
