We recently had the pleasure of participating in a site visit in the Rural Municipality of Rosser alongside Manitoba’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Honourable Mike Moyes, representatives from our subsidiary, Eco-West / Éco-Ouest, and numerous partners and sector leaders committed to environmental innovation and sustainable economic development.

Organized around the work being led by Typha Co. in partnership with Strategic Systems Engineering Inc. and the Rural Municipality of Rosser, the visit highlighted a Manitoba-made innovation that supports both environmental stewardship and sustainable economic growth.

The visit highlighted the remarkable potential of cattail harvesting as a Manitoba-developed solution that addresses multiple environmental and economic priorities simultaneously.

For Manitoba’s bilingual municipalities, this approach represents a promising opportunity. In addition to helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions and remove phosphorus from our waterways, the beneficial use of cattails could create new economic opportunities in rural communities, support local innovation, and strengthen community resilience.

This initiative directly supports the objectives of the Prosperity Framework for Manitoba’s Bilingual Municipalities and Manitoba’s Path to Net Zero strategy, both of which emphasize sustainable economic growth, regional innovation, and environmental protection.

The AMBM is proud to collaborate, through its subsidiary Eco-West Canada, with partners such as Carbon Lock Tech, Ducks Unlimited Canada, MacDon Industries Ltd., the Manitoba Association of Watersheds, and others who are turning this vision into concrete action for a more prosperous and sustainable Manitoba.

We applaud the swift response and leadership of Manitoba’s bilingual municipalities during the 911 service outage. Their rapid mobilization helped keep residents informed of alternative ways to reach emergency services and reinforced the vital role municipalities play in protecting public safety. This situation also highlighted the importance of reliable and resilient telecommunications infrastructure for Manitoba’s rural communities.

Reliable communications infrastructure is essential to public safety, community resilience, and the long-term prosperity of rural and bilingual municipalities.

As a four-year municipal term comes to a close, we take a moment to recognize the accomplishments achieved, the dedication of our municipal elected officials, and the many successes that have helped move our bilingual municipalities forward.

Recently, municipal leaders from across AMBM’s bilingual municipalities gathered in the Winnipeg River region to discuss the challenges, successes, and opportunities shaping the future of our communities. The gathering highlighted the strength of regional collaboration and the importance of continuing our collective efforts.

With AMBM’s support and the collaboration of committed leaders across our bilingual municipalities, we continue to see communities that are stronger, better equipped, and ready to play an even greater role in building a truly bilingual Manitoba.

Our bilingual advantage is our ability to bring people together, strengthen our municipalities, and create opportunities that benefit everyone. Together, we are building a future where bilingualism is a tangible asset for the growth, prosperity, and long-term vitality of our municipalities and our province.

Thank you to everyone who contributed throughout this term and who works every day to help our bilingual municipalities thrive and shine.
