IAFF Local 2890 Yellowknife Firefighters Association

IAFF Local 2890 Yellowknife Firefighters Association The Yellowknife Firefighters Association was established in 1982 and proud members of the IAFF Thank you,

Regards,

Local 2890

With a staff of 32 full-time Firefighter/Paramedics; Local 2890 responded to over 4500 emergent and non-emergent calls in and around Yellowknife in 2016. Fire suppression (structural and wild land) is only one of the types of emergencies that Yellowknife Firefighters respond to. Firefighters are called in for rescue services such as vehicle extrication, confined space and low angle rope rescue, HA

ZMAT, and water and ice rescue within city limits. The majority of emergency calls that come through the dispatch centre are medical in nature and for this reason Yellowknife Firefighters are also required to be certified paramedics as they are the individuals who respond to all emergency medical calls. Yellowknife Firefighters love their job and look forward to providing great service to the citizens of Yellowknife. During off duty hours, the proud members of Local 2890 have participated in several volunteer programs in and around the city. They help out with the cities Snow Angel program in the winter months and adopt a street in the spring. We may also see them at the SPCA helping out or assisting other volunteers with Helmets for Hardy. If you have a volunteer opportunity please don't hesitate to contact us through this page.

For 70 years, Canadian Fire Fighters have partnered with Muscular Dystrophy Canada, as an unwavering source of support. Thanks to their passion and dedication, Canadian Fire Fighters from coast to coast to coast have raised nearly $100 million through Fill the Boot campaigns over the last 70 years in support of the Canadian neuromuscular community.

This year, the Yellowknife Fire Fighters Association will be having a Rooftop Campout and a Fill The Boot at the Yellowknife COOP at 321 Old Airport Road from February 20th-23rd. The funds raised will go to funding for medical equipment, research, and advocacy.
