This video documents the reception of a respected elder by the Ekpe members in Mamfe.
It was not an ordinary welcome, but a special honour reserved for a Sessekou who has passed on.
The Ekpe appeared in full dignity, with sacred rhythms, chants, and ceremonial dance, escorting him with respect and ancestral pride. They did not simply carry him; they accompanied him, as tradition requires, from the entrance of GRA through to the house in Mamfe where he was laid in state.
This rite signifies recognition — of the life lived, the responsibilities borne, and the standing held within the Ekpe institution and the wider community. It reflects the brotherhood’s expression that one who walked with them in life does not walk alone on the final journey.
The ceremony was solemn, powerful, and deeply symbolic — a farewell expressed in the language of tradition, honour, and continuity.
