Today, we proudly celebrate Restoration of Estonian Independence Day! 🇪🇪✨
On this day in 1991, Estonia reclaimed its freedom. It is popular topic in Estonia to ask friends what you did on August 20, 1991? Everybody remembers exactly what they did on that day. As the Soviet Union collapsed, our nation held a singular, clear vision - to integrate with the West as swiftly and deeply as possible. Just two days later, on August 22, 1991, Iceland became the very first country to diplomatically recognise our reclaimed independence. 🇮🇸❤️🇪🇪
To honour this historic bond and show our enduring gratitude, we were absolutely delighted to welcome our Icelandic friends to move in to the Estonian Embassy building in Beijing.
Happy Restoration of Estonian Independence Day!

This weekend marked the second edition of the China–Europe Sports Day, bringing together participants to celebrate the unifying power of sport.

We were honoured by the active participation of H.E. Hua Chunying, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, and former tennis champion Zheng Jie, who, among many career highlights, also partnered Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi in doubles competition.

We look forward to many more successful editions of this inspiring event, strengthening friendship and mutual understanding through sport.

Estonian film classic screening in Shanghai.

𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐢 𝐊𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐢 kultusfilm „𝐇𝐮𝐤𝐤𝐮𝐧𝐮𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢 𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥“ (1979) linastub juunis Aasia ühel suurimal filmifestivalil ja jõuab Hiina publiku ette.

12. juunil algaval 28. Shanghai rahvusvahelisel filmifestivalil linastub “Hukkunud Alpinisti hotell” programmis 4K Restoration, kuhu on valitud maailma filmiajaloo silmapaistvad restaureeritud teosed. Tänavuses programmis on Grigori Kromanovi filmi kõrval näiteks Miloš Formani „Lendas üle käopesa“, Martin Scorsese „New York, New York“, Alejandro González Iñárritu „Amores Perros“ ja David Fincheri „Paanikatuba“.

Restaureeritud versiooni maailma esilinastus toimus tänavu veebruaris Berliini filmifestivali arhiivifilmide programmis, kus „Hukkunud Alpinisti hotell“ valiti programmi avafilmiks.

Shanghai filmifestival on üks Aasia olulisemaid filmisündmusi.
Filme säilitab Rahvusarhiivi filmiarhiiv.

Happy Europe Day 🇪🇺

Europe is freedom - to move, to learn, to build a future without borders.

Estonia has grown with Europe and helped shape it, from digital innovation to standing firm for Ukraine.

Because Europe stands for something worth protecting: freedom, security, and the right to choose our own future.

The Soviet Union was an occupier, not a liberator. This history must be stated clearly.
