70 Days to Go| Canton Fair signs new global partners ahead of 140th session

The China Import and Export Fair, commonly known as the Canton Fair, held a global partner signing ceremony in Guangzhou on August 4, marking the start of the 70-day countdown to its 140th session.

At the ceremony, three new partners joined the Canton Fair's global partnership program for the first time: Sebrae Mato Grosso (the Mato Grosso branch of the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service), the German Association for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (BVMW) and the Federation of Sundry Goods Merchants Associations of Malaysia.

Meanwhile, three long-standing partners renewed their cooperation agreements: the Minsk branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI), the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Nigeria and the Austrian Chinese Business Association (ACBA). Alan Coelho de Séllos, consul general of Brazil in Guangzhou, attended the signing ceremony.

The fair's global partner network now covers 110 countries and regions, with 231 overseas business institutions, industry associations and leading enterprises signed on as partners. Canton Fair Promotion Conference in Algeria Highlights Industrialization and Green Transition

The 140th Canton Fair Promotion Conference was successfully held in Algiers, Algeria, on 29 July. Remarks were delivered by Mr. D**g Guangli, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Mr. Xu Jian Sheng, Operation Director of China Foreign Trade Centre Group, Ltd., and Mr. Lakhdar MADJEN, Vice-President of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Ms. Yu Lu, Vice-President of the China Chamber of Commerce of Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-products (CFNA), delivered remarks via video. Nearly 300 representatives from the Algerian business community attended the conference both in person and online.

The 140th Canton Fair Promotion Conference Successfully Held in Türkiye

The 140th Canton Fair Promotion Conference was held in Istanbul, Türkiye, on 28 July. Remarks were delivered by Mr. Dai Ke, Counsellor of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Istanbul, Mr. Ahmet Ozer, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Xu Jian Sheng, Operation Director of China Foreign Trade Centre Group, Ltd. Mr. Salih UNAL, General Manager of KUMTEL China, shared his experience as a Canton Fair buyer. At the first session of the Canton Fair in 1957, the Macao Chamber of Commerce organized a delegation to attend the Fair, with Mr. Hoi Sai Iun among its members. From that moment on, he formed a deep bond with the Canton Fair that has lasted nearly seven decades.

“When the country prospers, Macao prospers.” This is a belief Mr. Hoi has long held close to heart. At a time when Western countries imposed an economic blockade on the newly founded People’s Republic of China, attending the Canton Fair was more than a business endeavor. It was also a solemn expression of patriotism and responsibility.

From grain, oil and daily necessities to high-tech products; from the Liuhua Road Exhibition Hall to the Pazhou Complex; from years of rebuilding and renewal to today’s prosperity, Mr. Hoi has witnessed, through his own footsteps, every stage of Macao’s journey alongside the motherland. His story is also a vivid testament to the Canton Fair’s development — from a vital window through which New China broke through external blockade, to an important platform for China’s all-round opening-up.
