(GCS info) The Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, chaired the first meeting of 2026 of the working group for the construction of the Macao Sci-Tech Park on 6th August to discuss its overall construction. During the meeting, members of the working group and the project design team reported on the progress of the construction, investment promotion, amendments to the MSAR Urban Master Plan, future work plans, and the design scheme of the Park.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 2,726 new companies were incorporated in the first half of 2026, most of which were engaged in Wholesale & Retail Trade (995) and Business Services (764). Meanwhile, 545 companies were dissolved. The number of companies showed a net increase of 2,181.

(DSEC info) Results of visitor expenditure survey for the first half of 2026
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total non-gaming spending of visitors stood at MOP44.47 billion in the first half of 2026, up by 17.4% year-on-year. Of which, total spending of overnight visitors (MOP32.41 billion) and that of same-day visitors (MOP12.05 billion) rose by 8.0% and 53.5% respectively.

(DSEC info) Residential property price index for the second quarter of 2026
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the overall residential property price index was 192.4 in the second quarter of 2026, up by 1.9% quarter-on-quarter. The indices for existing residential units (205.0) and pre-sale residential units (245.1) rose by 1.9% and 2.0% respectively.

(DSEC info) Demographic statistics for the first half of 2026
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population of the Macao Special Administrative Region totalled 686,500 at the end of the first half of 2026, an increase of 600 year-on-year. As regards the gender distribution, the female population (371,000) exceeded the male population (315,500), accounting for 54.0% of the total.

(GCS info) The Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, met on Tuesday (4 August) with the Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Mr Zhou Zuyi, and the Governor of Fujian Province, Mr Zhao Long. The two sides exchanged views on issues including continuing to deepen all-round cooperation between Fujian and Macao and jointly promoting the development of both regions. In the afternoon Mr Sam undertook an inspection and research visit to learn about Fuzhou’s achievements in economic and social development, and its plans for eco-tourism, as well as to draw on the city’s successful experience in urban regeneration, conservation and revitalisation.

(GCS info) The Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, along with the Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Mr Zhou Zuyi, and the Governor of Fujian Province, Mr Zhao Long – as well as their respective delegations – attended the 5th Fujian-Macao Cooperation Conference held on Tuesday (4 August) in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province. Both sides agreed that cooperation between Fujian and Macao is deeply rooted, has yielded fruitful results, and holds great promise. The two places will work in unison and move forward together to open a new chapter of cooperation characterised by shared development and progress.
