On Thursday, 4 December, the Consulate General of Malta in Shanghai celebrated Malta’s 51st Anniversary of the Republic at the iconic Peace Hall of the historic Peace Hotel. The Consul General was deeply honoured to welcome Guests of Honour: the Hon. Minister for Justice, Dr. Jonathan Attard Ġustizzja and the Vice Mayor of Shanghai, Mr Zhang Xiaohong, whose presence highlighted the warmth of Malta-China bilateral relations. We were also honoured by the presence of an over 80-strong business delegation from Property Malta, whose historic visit - the largest Maltese business delegation ever to China - further underscored the uniqueness of this occasion.
The evening opened with remarks by the Consul General Ms Lisa Azzopardi, followed by an address from H.E. John A. Busuttil, Ambassador of Malta to China. The official programme continued with the keynote speech delivered by Minister Attard highlighting Malta’s forward-looking business vision.
A highlight of the night was the premiere of Echoes of Malta, supported by Arts Council Malta and led by Ms Marta Vella, featuring the iconic designs of Charles & Ron. This artistic showcase captured Malta’s identity through fashion, storytelling, and movement.
Guests were also delighted by a live saxophone performance from Mr Samuel Mallia, whose repertoire of classic Maltese tunes brought both warmth and elegance to the evening.
A special culinary corner offered guests a taste of home - including premium Maltese bluefin tuna, a Mediterranean delicacy enjoyed and appreciated here in Shanghai.
Sincere thanks go to all our sponsors Institute Of Tourism Studies - ITS, Property Malta Foundation, Residency Malta Agency, immVest, 20Twenty, Bluefin Mediterranean, Aequum and other partners whose support made this celebration possible, and to Team Consulate General, who once again rose to the occasion with dedication, professionalism and pride.
