Suriname Poker League (SPL) consists out of a group of individuals who have a strong belief that poker should be considered a sport instead of classified as gambling. SPL has the intention to create a federation supported by the ministry of sports and tax offices to establish a local governing body that will be registered with the International Federation of Poker (IFP) the global government of po
ker. In order to accomplish this we try to build a strong poker community within Surinam, surrounding countries and countries with strong ties to Suriname. The first steps to get this accomplished was set a decade ago founding the first private poker club with a handful of members. This led to the existence of several private and casino tied poker clubs established nowadays all with their own client base. SPL foresees opportunities within this small but steadily growing community and has the ambition to organise twice a year a poker tournament running for several days listing different events. This all to provide the existing poker community the opportunity to experience such events in their own country and reach out to potential players live and online to grow the community.
