The good Future for Drains and Canals
Presently, when one speaks of drains and canals, the picture that appears, besides a few exceptions, is one of dire filth and repulsion. It is because the drains and canals are constructed to gush away the used, waste-loaded water, as well as during rain and snowfall, the muddy rain and meltwater.
Today, many methods have evolved to filter out the impurities in used and precipitated waters, turning the filthy water clean and crystal clear. The drain and canal waters bear no dirt. Furthermore, people are aware that the ingredients that cause water to be contaminated are not filth but are useful components that have a use elsewhere.
Because the ingredients that cause water filthy are usable, they are filtered off and sent for use. And the water, free of contamination, enters the drains and canals as clean, crystal-clear water.
Because the water that enters drains and canals is clean and crystal clear and is free of any ingredients, the drains and canals can be used as usable water holding reservoirs, small and large. As such, they could be broadened and deepened.

I love heavenly rain
I love heavenly rain. I won’t let it go. It gives me food, beauty, cleans me, brushes the landscape, and gives me pools to swim and have fun.
Because I love heavenly rain, soon, latest in three years, there will be no floods, drought, landslides, and coastal erosion. My house will be beautiful.

Rubble Slide expected
In Switzerland Rubble Slide is expected near the town Brianz. The town already had threats some years ago and the people were evacuated. Now the threat is again has come.
From the pic one can assume that there had been no precautions taken. The slope which is fairly stable shows elementary methods could be taken to prevent it from sliding. There are easier methods that cost normal. But !!!
It should be mentioned that the "Bystander Complex" is contributing to the negligence.

Bereits im Vorjahr musste das kleine Bergdorf Brienz in der Schweiz wegen eines Erdrutsches vorübergehend evakuiert werden. Nun sind auf dem Hang oberhalb des Dorfes wieder riesige Schuttmassen in Bewegung.

It happened in Spain and just a few weeks ago in Poland. Both are in Europe and are members of the European Union. European Union belongs to the highest developed regions in the world. Yet, they are backward in Environmental issues. Now, they have a good excuse: "Climate Change". It is wrong. Such floods can come at any time with or without climate change. The error lies elsewhere, namely in infrastructure and landscape engineering.
We in Sri Lanka, are, too, backward in floods, flashfloods, and landslide precautions. The methods applied are outdated. Many productive methods are pending. It needs to change the Administrative methods.

Coconut Tree Valuation
A Coconut tree, to bear fruit, could be averaged at 8 years old. It can bear about 75 seeds per year, but normally less than 30 seeds per year. At today’s price can bring 50 Rs net income per seed. But a private consumer will save at least 75- Rs a day if he had a tree. Annual income/ tree 30x50 =1500 - Rs per year.
Other invisible income and advantages:
1. Sunshade. Reduces daytime heat fatigue. In the shades the temperature difference comes to about 5°C.
2. Snow sphere shrinking. It will increase annual rainfall, reduce glacier melting, lessen cyclone momentums, and stabilize the humidity and moisture content of the ground.
3. Flood control. Delaying the raindrops from falling reduces the accumulation of water on the ground. The flow in - flow out ratio is stretched.
4. Sea level reduction. Water held in the land and tree increases. Less water to the seas.
5. Strong wood after 30 years. The wood serves to make furniture and houses.
6. Promotes ornithology. Birds improve soil, land level and biodiversity, mood, etc.
7. Leaves for roofs and fences and fun cabins.
8. The unused leftovers are good for cooking or organic manure.

A tree planting cost = 100-Rs
Tree bears fruit between 5 and ten years. If it bears only at the tenth year, interest lost in the 100-Rs must be added. costing considered to be 10 years=285,31 lost interest of 10% per annum.
The tenth year or before the tree will bear 30 seeds. At today’s rate it will be more than 1500- Rs income/year.
In private usage it will be about 2500-Rs income at the tenth year.
Initial cost = 100 Rs.
Interest lost till the tree bears fruit at 10% is as follows. The interest lost is added every year.
Interest first year = 100/100*10 =10 interest 10 plus investment100 = 110- Rs at the end of the year.
At the end of the 10th year the cost of a coconut tree will come to at 10% interest to 285.31 Rs.

Minimum income at the end of 10th year will be 1500 – 285.37 = 1214.69
When other advantages are added, their value is far higher than 1215- Rs. One can simply double the gain, for the wood will have much value in the future.

Dog in the Manger and the Coast
Despite hurricanes, tornadoes and cyclones, the coast is the most versatile stretch on this Earth for human survival. Unfortunately, the citizens have not understood the approach to the coast.
At present, human activities on the coasts are worse than “a dog in the manger”. The dog doesn’t damage and blunder the manger. The humans damage, blunder, the coast, and make it easier to erode.
Humans are versatile in pushing the blame elsewhere. Now they have “the sea level rise” to bear the blame.
“The Sea Level Rise" can't erode the coast. It can drown the edges. Erosion is done by other vectors on the coast. The eroding coastal vectors dive in when humans deplete water’s edges.
The coast cannot be conserved. It either grows or recedes. Despite “SLR” since human advent some hundreds of thousands of years, the coasts have been growing. The proofs are the growth of calcareous atolls, and coasts without humans. As soon as humans step in on the coast beaches form. Origin of beaches is the origin of coastal erosion. “If no beach no erosion.”
One must know Newton’s Laws and a bit of trigonometry, physics, chemistry, and coastal biology.

Rothande Erosion
Rothande is an excellent strip cherished by many citizens who call it home. These daring and future-thinking citizens are deeply connected to the Rothande strip, which is now threatened with erosion due to wrong coastal science and engineering. The current situation may seem daunting, but it's crucial to be aware that there are specialists who have understood the coast.
A change of engineering is a must.
Once the change comes, securing the coast becomes easier, cost-effective, and encouraging. The constructions attempted are the future.
Despite the erosion threat, it's important to know the value of the Rothande strip. As time and the zeitgeist change, the strip is likely to see a surge in demand, making it a valuable asset in the future.
Living in the ocean is not new. People in East Asia still do for tens of centuries and have even developed a culture of their own.

Rodanthe homes in the Outer Banks are at risk of collapsing into the Atlantic Ocean due to erosion, high winds and king tides. Seven North Carolina homes have already collapsed in the past four years.

Lakshadweep Islands’ Problems (comments HT)
The problems of Atolls mentioned in Hindustan Times are common all over the world. It is whirling in Climate Change and Tourism. The real problem for many decades is deep set in wrong Coastal Science and wrong Coastal Engineering.
“No Atoll or coast is in danger due to Climate Change, and tourism.”
The error goes into Coastal Authorities named the “Coastal Conservation Authorities.” Here is the origin of the wrong Coastal Science and Coastal Engineering.
“A Coast cannot be conserved. Conserving a Coast is against nature’s evolutionary process. A Coast either grows or recedes.”
The attempt to conserve the coast has led coastal scientists and engineers to resort to misguided methods such as the indiscriminate dumping of boulders and concrete blocks, and the construction of walls. These practices not only harm the immediate area but also have detrimental effects on distant parts of the coast.
Coastal Scientists and Engineers must stop taking refuge in climate change and tourism. A coast, when not disturbed, always grows. The proof is the calcareous and other atolls that have been growing as the ice age has been melting for about 20,000 years or more. During the Ice-age the sea level has been, according to many scientific research works, more than 100 m lower than today. During the Ice-age the atolls had been as low as that time sea level. As the glacier ice melts, the sea level rises. With the rise, atolls have been growing, keeping a few meters above sea level. they will do again. They will be growing due to natural coastal vectors that are ever present when the coast is not dumped with boulders, heaped with concrete blocks, and or walled.
It is imperative that we shift our understanding of the coast and the methods we employ for its conservation. With a change in generation actively involved in coastal matters, there is hope for a brighter future. Coasts, being the most adaptable geographical stretches on earth, hold the potential for human prosperity.

Lakshadweep's ecology faces threats from climate change and tourism, prompting local advocates to safeguard their homeland.

Botanic Volume

The meaning of botanic volume:
a volume full of Flora. The usage of it is to imagine the flora that had been on the point one is standing before the advent of humans, and emulate it.
The result will be a fascinating living with the re-introduction of consumed off nature and it versatility in a new form.
The initial act will be to have field agriculture, two dimensional agriculture, developed to become three dimensional voluminous agriculture. And, with time, to add the fourth dimension "time" to it.
Agriculture, or food production is quintessential since the population density crossed the condition in which the population had been leading a easier life as hunter gatherer to harder life with lack of food provided by nature.
It is the crossing the threshold where rate of consumption of natural food had been greater than the growth of food in nature.
The humans discovered that it is easier to cultivate than hunting and gathering. That developed to field cultivation. It spread so far that it has devastated the diversity of nature. And has become self defeating.
The mere activity has caused land loss due to coastal erosion, desertification, glacial withdrawal, devastating rains and accelerating winds beside many others.
Because of many pains due to field agriculture many are forced to seek alternatives. One of it is vertical farming. And vertical farming evolves to voluminous three dimensional farming, which further will have fourth dimension coming into it in many tracks as time passes.

Coastal Erosion in Uchchimunai

Coastal erosion must have begun in Uchchimunai long time ago. Namely, when the footsteps made a path land inwards trampling and tearing whatever the flora on its way. It is also the beginning of the beach in Uchchimunai. Beginning of a beach is the beginning of coastal erosion. It is not the “sea level rise” that drives erosion. It is the beach.

As the erosion proceeds in soft rock sandy beach “coastal cliffs” form, and pieces, blocks, and cakes of land begin to fall. As one sees often at the coasts of the UK.

In Uchchimunai, opposite the beautiful and charming church of Uchchimunai, the Velankanni Church, the beach gives way to mini cliff falls. The sea is eroding the beach.

Just above the edge where water washes on the shore (pic 1) one can see a step-like appearance of the coast. A mini Cliff.
It is the beginning of coastal erosion

I hope the erosion will not be protected by boulders and wall construction. The waves bouncing on the boulders and coastal walls energise the coastal waters. Which in turn whirl erosion right and left of the bouncing and even the seabed. It will, in a few years, cause the disappearance of the island. People and coastal pundits will be blaming the Sea Level Rise. Which is wrong.

As to protecting the coast, there are many natural methods, that are cheaper and more effective.

“Sea Level Rise” does not erode a coast, it can drown a stretch.

A good solution is to construct swimming pools for the visiting devotees.
