Multinational Division North Headquarters Multinational Division North was created on 8th of March 2019 to contribute to NATO presence, deterrence and stability in the Baltic Sea region.

Second International Drone Summit took place in Riga, Latvia 🇱🇻 today.

Sector experts, industry representatives and NATO Allies all came together to exchange knowledge and strengthen cooperation.

At a time when we face constant technological competition, collaboration and knowledge-sharing have never been more critical.

Earlier this year, Multinational Division North, NATO’s Land Force in Latvia, supported the launch of the NATO DIANA accelerator in Riga, partnering with UniLab to provide military mentorship and subject-matter expertise to participating companies.

Together with NATO Multinational Brigade Latvia, we will continue this work, because strong relationships between industry and the military are vital for developing the capabilities needed to fight and succeed on the battlefield.

DIANA - the Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic - is a NATO organisation dedicated to identifying and accelerating dual-use innovation to address critical defence and security challenges.

Exercise 2026, led by Sauszemes spēku Mehanizētā kājnieku brigāde 🇱🇻, concluded last week and was a powerful demonstration of cooperation, unity and shared commitment to Latvia’s security 🇱🇻

Training side by side with Allied forces in Latvia strengthens everyone’s ability to operate together in complex environments and reinforces NATO’s collective defence.

Līdz 22. maijam NATO Multinational Brigade Latvia Ādažu poligonā organizē ikgadējās mācības “Iron Spear 2026”, kurās piedalās tanku ekipāžas no NATO Daudznacionālās brigādes Latvijā, kā arī NATO daudznacionālajām kaujas grupām Lietuvā un Igaunijā.
Mācībās piedalās karavīri no Kanādas, Francijas, Itālijas, Nīderlandes, Norvēģijas, Polijas, Spānijas, Zviedrijas un Apvienotās Karalistes.

🤝 This week, the NATO Allied Land Command Commander, General Christopher Donahue 🇺🇸, visited Latvia 🇱🇻 to witness first-hand, how Allied forces are adapting to the modern battlefield.

💪 In Latvia, Allied forces regularly training to detect, track, and respond to UAV threats, boosting operational readiness in drone-saturated environments. Together with the Latvian National Armed Forces Latvijas armija, NATO troops are enhancing force protection tactics to ensure they can operate effectively in any environment.

Exercise BRAVE LION in Denmark 🇩🇰

During exercise BRAVE LION, around 2,500 soldiers from the Danish Army’s 1. Brigade spent two weeks training to defend Denmark against an enemy invasion - a task that demands every capability across the military spectrum, from combat and logistics to engineering and, not least, first aid.

BRAVE LION, which ended last week, also provides an opportunity for the Danish Army to certify the units set to deploy to Latvia 🇱🇻 as part of ’s Multinational Division North, contributing to the Alliance’s collective defence on the eastern flank.

In 2024, and the Danish Army’s 1.Brigade signed an affiliation agreement. This partnership includes valuable education, training and exercise opportunities.

In addition, 1.Brigade has taken part in the comprehensive state defense exercise 🇱🇻 NAMEJS, conducted in Latvia and organised in collaboration with Multinational Division North and the Latvian National Armed Forces.

Today it is 36 years since the restoration of 🇱🇻 Latvia's independence.

Multinational Division North will take part in the annual parade together with Latvian Armed Forces Latvijas armija and other units.

This year's parade takes place in Aizkraukle.

We welcome Major General Ulrich Essemann-Beck 🇩🇰 as the new Commander of Multinational Division North. He assumed command earlier this week in the Change of Command ceremony in Military Base Ādaži, Latvia 🇱🇻

The Commander takes on this responsibility with determination and a clear understanding of the duty it entails. On NATO’s eastern flank, deterrence and defence are not abstract ideas, but daily responsibilities. has an important role in fulfilling them.
