Not only studying in Denmark – making connections 🗣️

As a new international student, it can be overwhelming and at times lonely to study abroad. But there are plenty of options right outside your classroom.

There are student clubs, communities and associations to join while studying here – from sports and volunteering to gaming, culture, social events and student politics.

Being curious about the different opportunities is one of the best ways to meet new people, make friends and feel more at home in Denmark 🇩🇰

Check your higher education institution’s student unions, intro events, good old-fashioned bulletin board or campus pages to find a community that matches you.

Fee or free? 🧑‍🎓💰

Tuition fees are always a topic of interest for international students.

Students from EU/EEA and Switzerland and exchange students are generally tuition-free.
For students with certain residence status in Denmark, you need to contact the institution you wish to study at.

All other international students must pay tuition fees — typically EUR 6,000–16,000 per year (it varies... so see the specific study programme for details).

Wondering what a study day in Denmark might look like for a student? No days are exactly the same, but here is an example of how the day can unfold.

Getting up early and getting there: You guessed it! This means (for the majority of students) by bike 🚲

Lectures are not just about listening. Participating is a vital part of learning and the time spent in the classroom.

Breaks are necessary and often spent with classmates - including something to eat and a cup of coffee ☕

Group work plays a central role in many Danish study programmes. During group work, you get to cooperate and be innovative with your study group.

A day well spent on campus and then it is time to head home. And once again, you are to be found pedaling along in the bike lane.

Late afternoon and early evening often include self-study and for some students also a student job.

Eventually, it is time to have dinner, maybe meet up with friends for a sports activity or just switch off and relax 🧘
