Building stronger communities starts with bringing people together.

The first Community Engagement Symposium of the TRANSFORMED project took place on 5–6 June 2026, in Limassol, Cyprus, organised by the project’s Cypriot partner, Cultural Movement of Limassol EPILOGI.

We were pleased to welcome the Mayor of Limassol, Yiannis Armeftis, the Mayor of Amathounta, Kyriacos Xydias, and the Mayor of Kourion, Pantelis Georgiou, whose presence highlighted the important role of local administrations in advancing inclusive governance.

Local administrations, civil society organisations, academics, and community representatives came together through discussions, collaboration, and hands-on workshops to share experiences, identify local challenges, and co-design solutions that strengthen inclusive governance and community engagement. These exchanges laid the groundwork for a shared framework and the next steps of TRANSFORMED’s implementation.

This symposium marks the launch of a broader community engagement process, and we look forward to continuing the conversation at the next Community Engagement Symposium.

Very soon, TRANSFORMED is holding its very first Community Engagement Symposium and we will be heading to one of our partner countries for that! Can you guess where?

Look it up, and you will find a dictionary definition. At TRANSFORMED, governance is not written about people, it is written with them.

Taking you back to our first step together!

In February, TRANSFORMED kicked off in Alexandria, Egypt. The project partners, representatives from local authorities, civil society organisations, and community members all sat at the same table, and that is where the conversation started.

Hear from the partners on this first step, and what they hope to build together: making local decisions more inclusive and closer to the people they affect, and reinforcing stronger cooperation between civil society organisations and local administrations.

And this is only the beginning! Soon, we meet again in another beautiful Mediterranean city to carry our transformative mission forward.

TRANSFORMED began with people, dialogue, and a shared direction.

1–2 February 2026 marked the official launch of the project with its Kick-off Meeting in Alexandria, Egypt. We were honoured by the presence of the Managing Authority and Joint Secretariat of the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, H.E. Polly Ioannou, Ambassador of Cyprus to Egypt and TRANSFORMED project partners and the Union for the Mediterranean as an associate partner.

Over the last two days, the partners engaged in collaborative and participatory exchanges, in-depth discussions, and joint reflections, laying the groundwork for a shared roadmap and the next steps of TRANSFORMED’s implementation across the Euro-Mediterranean.

Introducing TRANSFORMED!

Transnational Knowledge for a More Inclusive and Participatory Mediterranean (TRANSFORMED) is a governance project conceptualised by ALF and funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme. The project brings together local administrations and civil society actors across five Euro-Mediterranean countries, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Italy, and Lebanon, to strengthen cooperation and co-design inclusive, people-centered governance solutions tailored to community needs.
