A Word from the Stage, Darlings:

Listen up, because I’m only going to say this once — and I’ll say it in full glitter and six-inch heels so you know it’s important.

This community was built on the backs of people who had absolutely nothing except each other. Trans women of colour threw the first punches at Stonewall so that the rest of us could one day live out loud. We did not survive conversion therapy, family rejection, street violence, and a government that ignored us through an AIDS crisis just to come home and tear each other apart.

Respect within this community is not optional, honey. It is the foundation. It means you don’t punch down at the bisexuals, you don’t erase the asexuals, you don’t gatekeep who is “queer enough,” and you absolutely, unequivocally protect and affirm your trans siblings — especially the young ones who are watching us to see if they have a future worth living for.

We are not a monolith, and we were never supposed to be. Our power has always been in our beautiful, chaotic, gorgeous diversity. So the next time you feel the urge to diminish someone else’s identity, I want you to remember: somebody somewhere fought for your right to exist too.

Now straighten that wig, love your neighbour, and get back on the dance floor.

I have met a few sash holders over the past few years. Yet to meet one who doesn’t accept leather and drag go together. I take it one step further and do drag IN leather 🤣😉😘
