On 24 August 2026, His Excellency Tebelelo Alfred Boang received Dr. Joy Phumaphi, Executive Secretary of African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA). The two discussed leveraging on upcoming African Union statutory meetings to advance matters of financing for the elimination of Malaria on the Continent, amongst others.

It may be recalled that President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, was appointed Chairperson of ALMA in 2025, in recognition of Botswana’s commendable efforts and stride on the fight against Malaria.

On 14 August 2026, Ambassador Tebelelo Alfred Boang had a meeting with His Excellency Jiang Feng, Ambassador and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the African Union.

They acknowledged the excellent relations between Botswana and China built over decades of strategic cooperation and shared principles.

The Ambassadors noted the current geopolitical environment, and emphasised the importance of a rule based multilateral system, rooted in the principles of the United Nations Charter. They pledged to continue cooperation and solidarity, as partners in the Global South.

Botswana has today taken another significant step in advancing youth development across the African continent.

H.E. Tebelelo Alfred Boang, Ambassador of the Republic of Botswana to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, today deposited Botswana’s Instrument of Accession to the African Youth Charter with the African Union Commission at its Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

The deposit of the Instrument reaffirms Botswana’s commitment to promoting the rights, empowerment and meaningful participation of young people in national and continental development. The Charter provides a comprehensive framework for advancing youth development, protecting the rights of young people, and creating opportunities for their full participation in Africa’s socio-economic and political transformation.

This milestone reflects our continued commitment to the aspirations of Agenda 2063 and to ensuring that young people remain at the centre of sustainable development, peace, innovation and prosperity across Africa.

On 25 June 2026, H.E. Ambassador Boang welcomed H.E. Mr. Lucas Domingo Hernández Polledo, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the African Union, on a courtesy call at the Embassy of Botswana in Addis Ababa.

The meeting reaffirmed the warm and longstanding friendship between Botswana and Cuba and explored opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Discussions also covered recent developments affecting Cuba, including the humanitarian and economic implications of the fuel blockade and its impact on essential sectors such as healthcare, energy, transportation and food security.

Both Ambassadors reaffirmed the importance of multilateralism, constructive dialogue, respect for international law, sovereign equality and strengthened cooperation in addressing global challenges.

Botswana remains committed to promoting strong bilateral relations and meaningful partnerships that contribute to peace, development and shared prosperity.
