Ethiopia Convenes Inaugural National Steering Committee Meeting on Refugee Inclusion

ADDIS ABABA, August 18, 2026 – The Government of Ethiopia today convened the inaugural meeting of the Makatet National Steering Committee at the Ministry of Finance, marking an important step toward implementation of the national refugee inclusion roadmap.

Chaired by H.E. Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of Finance, and attended by H.E. Teyiba Hassen, Director General of the Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS), the meeting brought together senior federal and regional representatives, including H.E. Mustafa Mohammed, President of the Somali Region, representatives of the Addis Ababa City Administration, and development and humanitarian partners.
Launched two months ago, the Makatet Roadmap provides a national framework to strengthen refugee inclusion, self-reliance and the resilience of host communities. It focuses on strengthening access to social services, livelihoods, economic opportunities and other essential areas of development.

Opening the meeting, H.E. Semereta Sewasew highlighted Ethiopia’s longstanding commitment to supporting refugees and the importance of a coordinated national approach.

“Makatet provides an opportunity to strengthen coordination and ensure that our efforts support both refugees and the communities that host them.”

H.E. Teyiba Hassen, Secretary of the National Steering Committee, emphasized the Committee’s role in strengthening coordination among relevant institutions and supporting effective implementation of the roadmap.

The Committee agreed to establish federal and regional Secretariat offices to support implementation and area-based planning, taking into account the specific priorities of refugee-hosting regions.

UNHCR Representative Aisatu N'diaye welcomed the establishment of the Committee and highlighted its importance in strengthening coordination, accountability and results.

The meeting concluded with the approval of the Terms of Reference of the National Steering Committee and the adoption of the 2026 implementation priorities, providing a clear framework for coordinated action during the remainder of the year.

The Makatet Roadmap reflects Ethiopia’s commitment under the Global Compact on Refugees and provides a platform for government institutions and partners to work together toward stronger refugee inclusion and more resilient host communities.

The establishment of the National Steering Committee marks an important step in translating the roadmap into coordinated action and delivering tangible results for refugees and host communities across Ethiopia.

ነሐሴ 9 / 2018 ዓ.ም — የገንዘብ ሚኒስቴር እና ተጠሪ ተቋማት በኦሮሚያ ክልል ባሌ ዞን የአረንጓዴ አሻራ ችግኝ ተከላ እና የክረምት የበጎ ፈቃድ አገልግሎት መርሃ ግብር አካሄዱ::

የተቋማቱ አመራሮችና ሠራተኞች ከአዲስ አበባ 430 ኪ.ሜ ርቀት ላይ በባሌ ዞን በጎባ ወረዳ፣ አሎሼጢሎ ቀበሌ "ደጋ" ተብሎ በሚጠራው ልዩ ቦታ አረንጓዴ አሻራቸውን አኑረዋል፡፡

ከችግኝ ተከላው በተጨማሪ በጎባ እና ጎሮ ወረዳዎች የሁለት አንደኛ ደረጃ ትምህርት ቤቶች ግንባታ አስጀምረዋል። እንዲሁም ዝቅተኛ ገቢ ያላቸው ቤተሰቦች ልጆች ለሆኑ ተማሪዎች የትምህርት ቁሳቁስ ድጋፍ አበርክተዋል።

የገንዘብ ሚኒስቴር የፊስካል ፖሊሲ ዘርፍ ሚኒስትር ዴኤታ አቶ ፈቃዱ ሆረታ በዚሁ ወቅት እንደገለጹት፤ የሚኒስቴሩ ተልዕኮ በብሔራዊ ፖሊሲና በጀት አስተዳደር ላይ ብቻ አልተወሰነም። ይልቁንም በተለያዩ ክልሎች በመንቀሳቀስ በአረንጓዴ አሻራ እና በሌሎች የበጎ ፈቃድ ሥራዎች ማኅበራዊ ኃላፊነቱን እየተወጣ ይገኛል። በዕለቱ የተከናወነው የሁለት አንደኛ ደረጃ ትምህርት ቤቶች ግንባታ ማስጀመሪያ መርሃ ግብርም ማህበረሰቡን ከልማቱ ተጠቃሚ በማድረግ ሂደት የሚኒስቴሩን ሚና የሚያሳይ መሆኑን ገልጸዋል፡፡

የኢኮኖሚ ትብብር ዘርፍ ሚኒስትር ዴኤታ ወይዘሮ ሰመሬታ ሰዋሰው በበኩላቸው፤ ሠራተኞችና አመራሮች በባሌ ዞን በተካሄደው የበጎ ፈቃድ መርሃ ግብር በችግኝ ተከላና በትምህርት ቁሳቁስ ድጋፍ ላይ በመሳተፋቸው የተሰማቸውን ደስታ ገልጸው በሁለቱ ወረዳዎች ከ20 ሚሊዮን ብር በላይ ወጪ የሚደረግባቸው ሁለት ትምህርት ቤቶች ግንባታ መጀመሩን ጠቁመዋል።

በሥነ-ሥርዓቱ ላይ የሚኒስቴሩና የተጠሪ ተቋማት ከፍተኛ አመራሮች፣ ሠራተኞች፣ የዞኑ አመራሮች እንዲሁም የአካባቢው ማኅበረሰብ ተወካዮች የተገኙ ሲሆን የአካባቢው ነዋሪዎችም ለተደረገላቸው ድጋፍ ከፍ ያለ ምስጋና አቅርበዋል::

በመጨረሻም የዕለቱ መርሃ ግብር በዞኑ ከሚገኙት ድንቅ የተፈጥሮ መስህቦች አንዱ በሆነው በሶፍ ኦመር ዋሻ በተደረገ ጉብኝት ተጠናቋል።

Ethiopia and Saudi Fund for Development Advance Renewed Cooperation to Drive Sustainable Growth and Development

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – H.E. Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of Finance for Economic Cooperation, held discussions with Mr. Yaser Alotaibi, Director of the East and South Africa Operations Department at the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), and his delegation to reaffirm the longstanding partnership between Ethiopia and the Saudi Fund for Development and advance renewed cooperation in support of Ethiopia’s development agenda.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of SFD-supported projects in Ethiopia, particularly in the road and WASH sectors, discussed the completion of ongoing projects, and explored opportunities to develop a new pipeline of priority investments. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in infrastructure and other key sectors that contribute to Ethiopia’s economic and social progress.

State Minister Semereta expressed Ethiopia’s appreciation for the Saudi Fund for Development’s continued partnership in supporting transformative projects that have improved connectivity, expanded access to essential services, strengthened healthcare delivery, and enhanced the wellbeing of communities across the country.

The discussions also highlighted opportunities to complement development financing with greater economic engagement and investment promotion.

State Minister Semereta emphasized the opportunities created by Ethiopia’s ongoing macroeconomic reforms and improving investment environment, encouraging increased Saudi engagement in infrastructure, renewable energy, agribusiness, manufacturing, logistics, tourism, and other productive sectors.

The meeting underscored the importance of continued collaboration between the Government of Ethiopia and the Saudi Fund for Development to mobilize financing, advance priority initiatives, and support Ethiopia’s long-term economic transformation.

The discussions concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation through enhanced development financing, expanded investment opportunities, and continued dialogue in support of Ethiopia’s growth and prosperity.

Ethiopia and Uruguay Strengthen South–South Cooperation to Advance Sustainable Agriculture and Global Development

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – H.E. Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of Finance for Economic Cooperation, held discussions with Mr. Martín Clavijo, Executive Director of the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation (AUCI), and H.E. Mr. Mario Ángel Silva Castro, Ambassador of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, on strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing shared development priorities.

The meeting focused on enhancing South–South cooperation, with particular emphasis on agriculture and livestock development. The two sides explored opportunities for technical cooperation, knowledge exchange, and institutional partnerships in areas including livestock productivity, dairy development, livestock genetics, animal health, veterinary services, sustainable agricultural practices, and agricultural value chains.

State Minister Semereta highlighted Ethiopia’s commitment to leveraging South–South cooperation as a platform for knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and mutually beneficial partnerships that support sustainable economic transformation. She emphasized that, as the current President of the Council of Ministers of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), Ethiopia is committed to strengthening partnerships among developing countries and promoting stronger collaboration between Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific with partners across the Global South.

The Uruguayan delegation expressed its readiness to deepen cooperation with Ethiopia, drawing on Uruguay’s experience and expertise in sustainable agriculture, livestock development, and agricultural innovation. The sides underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration among government institutions, research organizations, and the private sector to promote productivity, food security, and inclusive growth.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on advancing global discussions on the reform of the international financial architecture. The two sides emphasized the importance of building a more inclusive, equitable, and responsive global financial system that better addresses the development and climate financing needs of developing countries. They highlighted the need to enhance access to affordable finance, strengthen the voice and representation of developing countries, and promote collective solutions through multilateral and South–South cooperation.

The discussions concluded with a shared commitment to further strengthen Ethiopia–Uruguay relations through practical cooperation in agriculture, livestock, trade, investment, and sustainable development, while continuing to advance common priorities within regional and global platforms.

የገንዘብ ሚኒስቴር እና ተጠሪ ተቋማት አመራሮችና ሠራተኞች “ተስፋን እንትከል!” በሚል መሪ ቃል አረንጓዴ አሻራቸውን አኖሩ

ሐምሌ 27 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም - የገንዘብ ሚኒስቴር እና ተጠሪ ተቋማት አመራሮችና ሠራተኞች “ተስፋን እንትከል!” በሚል መሪ ቃል በተካሄደው የ2018 ዓ.ም. የአረንጓዴ አሻራ የችግኝ ተከላ መርሐ ግብር በቱሉ ዲምቱ አካባቢ አረንጓዴ አሻራቸውን አኖሩ፡፡

የዕለቱ መርሀ ግብር ያስጀመሩት የገንዘብ ሚኒስትር ክቡር አቶ አህመድ ሽዴ እንደገለጹት ባለፉት ስምንት አመታት የአረንጓዴ አሻራ መርሀ ግብር ስኬታማ በሆነ መንገድ ሲከናወን የቆየ መሆኑንና በየአመቱ የሚተከለውም የችግኝ መጠንም እየጨመረ መምጣቱን ጠቅሰው ይህም የምግብ ዋስትናችንን ለማረጋገጥ ከፍተኛ አስተዋጽኦ እያበረከተ ከመሆኑም በላይ የአካባቢ የደን መራቆት እንዳይከሰትና የደን ሽፋናችንም በከፍተኛ ሁኔታ እንዲያድግ አግዟል ብለዋል።

ክቡር ሚኒስትሩ አክለውም በየአመቱ ይሄንን መርሀግብር ስናከናውን በተደራጀ የህዝብ ተሳትፎና አቅም በመሆኑ ከፍተኛ የበጀት ቁጠባም ያደረገ መሆኑን ጠቅሰው በተለይ የደን ሽፋንን ለማሳደግ፣ የአየር ንብረት ለውጥን ተፅዕኖ ለመቀነስ፣ የአፈርና የውኃ ሀብትን ለመጠበቅ እንዲሁም ለመጪው ትውልድ አረንጓዴና ጤናማ አካባቢ ለማስረከብ የሚያስችል ብሔራዊ እንቅስቃሴ መሆኑ ተጠቁሟል።

የገንዘብ ሚኒስቴር እና ተጠሪ ተቋማቱም ይህን ብሔራዊ እንቅስቃሴ በመደገፍ በቀጣይም የአካባቢ ጥበቃን፣ የአረንጓዴ ልማትን እና የዘላቂ ልማት ግቦችን የሚያግዙ ተግባራትን በትጋት እንደሚያስቀጥሉ ክቡር ሚኒስትሩ ጨምረው ገልጸዋል።
