የዲጂታል ኢትዮጵያ መሠረት የሆነው የፋይዳ ዲጂታል መታወቂያ ምዝገባ ከተጀመረ ጊዜ አንስቶ እስከ አሁን ድረስ ከ40 ሚሊዮን በላይ ነዋሪዎች ዲጂታል መታወቂያ ይዘዋል።

Ethiopian Finance Minister Meets with Chinese Counterpart to Advance Bilateral Economic Cooperation

BEIJING, China — 2026 — Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance met with the Minister of Finance of the People’s Republic of China, with discussions centering on debt restructuring, implementation of ongoing projects, and new financing opportunities for key strategic initiatives, including the development of a new Bushoftu International Airport.

The meeting underscored both countries’ commitment to strengthening their longstanding economic partnership. Both ministers expressed confidence that the outcome of the discussions marked a significant step toward achieving mutually beneficial outcomes.

On Debt Restructuring
A central focus of the discussions was the finalization of the restructuring of Ethiopia’s existing debt stock to enhance fiscal sustainability and create conditions for renewed economic growth. The two sides reached a resolution on the debt treatment and reaffirmed their commitment to working constructively within the G20 Common Framework parameters toward signing the bilateral agreement.

On Implementation of Ongoing Projects
The meeting also discussed measures to ensure and expedite the successful ex*****on of ongoing projects under the existing portfolio. Both sides emphasized the importance of improving disbursement efficiency and maintaining close coordination to support timely project delivery.

On New Financing for Strategic Projects
The ministers further explored financing opportunities for priority infrastructure initiatives, including the development of the new Bishoftu International airport expected to boost connectivity and enhance trade between China, Africa, and global markets.

“The Consensus reached on the meeting represents a pivotal moment in our bilateral relationship. We are committed to working closely with our Chinese partners to find sustainable partnership that serves the interests of our two countries,” the Ethiopian Finance Minister said.

The Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Dr. Eyob Tekalign, also briefed the ministers on partnership opportunities and agreements reached between the two countries’ central banks aimed at fostering mutual gains.

The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain close technical engagement to sign the debt treatment agreement, expedite project implementation, and further develop financing arrangements for the Bishoftu airport infrastructure project.

Ethiopia and the World Bank Sign USD 250 Million Agreement to Support Urban Communities and Youth Employment

January 14, 2026 - The Ministry of Finance and the World Bank have signed an additional financing agreement amounting to USD 250 million for the implementation of the Urban Productive Safety Net and Jobs Project.

This additional financing will enable the Government of Ethiopia to intensify efforts to improve incomes for the urban poor and enhance labor market inclusion for the youth and women.

Accordingly, key activities include providing labor-intensive public work opportunities and livelihood grants targeting vulnerable urban households, fostering youth employment in line with the national job creation plan, and extending support to include refugees and host communities in selected localities.

The project will also strengthen social assistance systems through cash transfers and services aimed at social and economic reintegration.

The agreement was signed virtually by Her Excellency W/ro Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of Finance, and Ms. Maryam Salim, World Bank Division Director for Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, and South Sudan.
