Tepi Agricultural Research Center, part of the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research, has made a significant breakthrough by developing a high-yielding black pepper varieties. Recognizing its potential, the Center is actively working to expand its cultivation and make it more accessible to farmers across the area. This expansion is being implemented through a collaborative partnership involving small-scale farmers and a private company, creating a synergistic approach to agricultural development.
This joint effort plays a crucial role in introducing and distributing improved black pepper planting materials, ensuring that farmers have access to high-quality resources for successful cultivation. In addition, the partnership is significantly increasing local black pepper production, thereby enhancing the overall supply and availability of this valuable spice in Ethiopia.
The increased production is also creating new and diverse income opportunities for local communities, empowering them economically and improving their quality of life. By supporting small-scale farmers and strengthening their agricultural practices, the initiative enhances community livelihoods and promotes economic resilience.
